Taste Buds | Notes Skateboard Competition
KEY MESSAGE
An active lifestyle and a balanced diet can improve how we look,
feel and perform.
This is an animated cartoon based on Jay, one of the Taste Buds
characters. It shows him practising for and taking part in a
skateboarding competition. We see how good performance comes
from practice and exercise.
The cartoon begins with Jay preparing to take part in the competition.
He is nervous about participating because he thinks he has no chance
of doing well, especially since Carlton who is a big skateboarding star
will be in the competition too. The Taste Buds investigate and find that
while Jay is practising, Carlton is sitting around watching TV and eating
junk food. Also, Carlton’s past successes aren’t real as he bought his
trophies on the internet.
Jay wins the competition and Carlton realises that he should have
practised more and eaten a more balanced diet.
Suggested Approach
Play the animation for the children and afterwards discuss what they
have seen and learned.
