How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

I have created a small video, giving a brief outline to answer the question. During the process of creating the music video, wide range of technologies were used in pre-production, production and postproduction process. In pre- production, I have vastly concentrated n the research aspect in order to gain some ideas and motivation for my music video, and the other two products.

Pre- Production

Over the summer I have started to watch and analyze some videos through the platforms including Youtube and Vimeo. I have used Youtube to search through the artists in similar genre to the track, which initially I was planning to use ‘Live your Life’ by Erick Morillo. I have discovered that most of the videos include very repetitive aspects including – locations, plot and the message behind the video. Using Pitbull as an example, the artist is in the centre of attention with a lot of female around him, when the video is being shot either in Cuba or Miami. Even though, I was not going to use same ideas, however, YouTube helped me to be different and more creative. Whereas Vimeo, was more useful and influential, as the videos published on that particular website are more artistic and professional. I have found my inspiration, which was the video by Doug Smith – ‘My Day’. Since then I always planned to film the music video, from the point of view, to gain higher interactivity with the audience. Blogger, helped to gather all of ideas into one page online. Any useful information would be posted on the website, including photographers and my top 5 music videos.

Production

During the production process, three pieces of equipment were used. One of them was Canon 5D. My initial plan to use my fathers camera, to record to sunrise, which could be placed at the start of the video, so the audience would know what time of the day it is. However, every time I was getting up earlier in the morning, the weather was awful, and the sun did not come out until 11 am. As the result, the camera was not useful neither was the tripod, that was supposed to increase the stability of the shot. Whereas, GoPro2 camera, was used through out the video, to create POV effect. I usually use the camera whilst skiing or surfing, but it became very useful when I was in New York.

Post- Production

For post-production, technologies were used either to edit the images, video or gain fast feedback. Final Cut Pro, was used to go through all of the footage and pick out any interesting shots from New York. Furthermore, I have used the editing programme to add transitions between the shots eg. Create a smooth start and the end. iPhoto was used to edit the pictures and create different effects. To gain fast feedback, Instagram was used as I have asked my friends to comment on the pictures. Also. Whether the audience wanted any changes to be made to the video, I have send the link and gained the reply through social network.
