KEYNOTE SPEAKERS / PANEL

MEMBERS

Judge Tom Altobelli

Federal Circuit Court of Australia

Dr Tom Altobelli was

appointed as a Federal

Magistrate on 13

November 2006 after 25

years of practice and is

currently sitting as a

Judge in the Family Law

Courts in Wollongong.

He holds a Master of Laws and Doctorate

in Juridical Science, and is an Adjunct

Professor in the School of Law, University of

Western Sydney. Before his appointment,

Tom was accredited as a specialist in the

areas of Family Law, Children’s law and

Mediation.

He was, formerly, Special Counsel at

Watts McCray Lawyers, Australia’s largest

family law firm, and an Associate Professor

at the University of Western Sydney. He

was also a member of the Executive of

the Family Law Section of the Law Council

of Australia. Tom has authored four books

on family law and dispute resolution as

well as 50 articles in Australian and

International Journals. Federal Magistrate

Altobelli is the Convenor of the Court’s

Working Party on Best Practice in

Children’s Cases.

Catherine Boland

M.Psych (Hons) B.Psych. B.Ed.(Maps)

Catherine Boland is a

Clinical Psychologist with

specialised expertise in

working with children,

young people and

parents who are

experiencing relation-

ship issues and are in

situations of family conflict and

separation. She is an accomplished

speaker, author and clinician who

understands the complex realities of child

and adolescent mental health and

provides evidence-based direction to

those who work with them. Catherine is an

experienced therapist offering services to

families in Court proceedings where

children are involved. Catherine has

developed a model by which families

ordered to attend therapy are assessed,

treated and reported. She is frequently

called upon to interview families in the

context of providing expert opinion and

report.

Catherine has worked in a range of

sectors as a clinical psychologist. She

underwent clinical training at Sydney’s

Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Sydney

Children’s Hospital. She has also worked

at the University of New South Wales and

a number of independent schools where

she was head of child counselling

services. Catherine now works exclusively

in private practice as Principal of The

Relationspace. She also provides

supervision and training for clinical

psychologists.

Catherine is on the professional advisory

panel of ReachOut Pro and has authored

a number of papers in the field of clinical

psychology. She frequently appears in the

popular media providing commentary on

parenting and family relationships.

Jenny Kadwell

CatholicCare

Jenny Kadwell is

Manager of Post-

Separation Services

for CatholicCare

Sydney, and has

worked in the family

law sector since

completing post-

graduate qualifications in mediation in

1998. She has managed the Sydney

Children’s Contact Service since it

commenced operation in 2008. Jenny

also manages the CatholicCare Family

Dispute Resolution team, which operates

across 6 sites from the CBD to southern

and south-west Sydney. Working with

programs at the two ends of the family

law services spectrum constantly

highlights the need for collaborative, child

focussed work to assist those children

whose families reach either early

intervention or court-ordered community

services such as FDR and CCS.

Lisa Robinson is the

Manager of The Anchor,

UnitingCare Unifam's

Supporting Children

Program which is funded

by the At torney -

General’s Department.

She has been in this role

for over 3 years and for the 3 years prior

to this was the Manager of the Fairfield

Family Relationship Centre, based in

Sydney's south west.

Lisa has a Masters in Couple and Family

Therapy from UNSW and is also

accredited as a Family Dispute Resolution

Practitioner. Lisa is also a trainer for the

Institute of Family Practice in both the

Relationship Counselling and Family

Dispute Resolution Vocational Graduate

Diplomas. Lisa has worked in the area of

post separation within Unifam for the last

10 years.

Kylie Beckhouse

Executive Director—Family Law, Legal

Aid NSW

Kylie is passionate

about the delivery of

family law services to

the economically and

s o c i a l l y d i s -

advantaged. As head

of Legal Aid NSW's

family law division she

oversees possibly the

largest family law and family dispute

resolution services in Australian. She is an

accredited specialist in family law and an

independent children's lawyer.

In 2012 she was appointed to the Family

Law Council of Australia. She is also a

member of the Law Society of NSW's

Family Law Issues Committee and the

Children's Court Advisory Committee. She

regularly presents and speaks on family

law issues.

Jean Kittson

Jean Kittson is one of

Australia’s best known

and most popular

comedians, amusing

audiences in theatre,

radio, television and

print.

Jean recently facilitated

the Albury Wodonga FLPN 2013

Conference along with Judge Altobelli.
