brands

Brands are a big part of modern society, the brand can sell and item just from a name such as Nike or Apple. Instantly we have expectations of there products. The audience knows in exactly what brands they like and don’t. companies must aim the brand at the target audience to achieve success.

Many other bands use logo to give themselves a brand identity in one simple design

Slipknot uses a gothic designed “S”

and is very recognisable

Masks The main focus of our brand identity is our

masks, the are iconic and very recognisable. many other bands such as Kiss and Slipknot are well know for there masks either because they are so iconic or terrifying, Slipknot used there masks to express there heavy metal music. our mask have all been designed differently to show a the different types of personality using artistic ways to show this. many bands from pop to metal do this in many ways either each band member having there own colour, nickname or fashion style. and we have done ours through masks. The masks

In our research we learnt that other rock bands; Hollywood undead, Slipknot, Fact and Kiss. We so we could still make Masks new original to a teenage audience,Our masks remain throughout our ancillary's because they are a main part of our brand identity, our magazine advert was inspired to use effects that would make our masks more appealing, we learnt from our research black and white worked well To display names and images. We also have ourMasks at the top of the advert too, to push Forward Our brand identity more.

For our music video we linked in a lot of themes with our ancillary's, we wanted this album to have a constant feel and theme. In the video we see writing “All I want is her” we also used the same writing on our digi pak. We wanted to create a constant theme so repeating important information too the album too the audience the images and lyrics become well know to that band.

There are large pictures on the digi pak of the band members, we did this to give the audience a clear view of the band and masks

Our masks, as you can see each band member has there own personality because of there masks. Because we used colours such as black and white they really stand out against our black clothing.

Page 8: How effective is the combination of your main1

This is apart of our digi pak we used our logo the flur de leas and all the band members masks to make the masks more recognisable to audience. we also used the design of the masks on the the magazine advert ancillary.

Band Logo Our logo is a flur de leas , we tool this

classic design and changed it. We used blood and barb wire to show the danger and pain of the band a very common theme with heavy metal. We made the flur de leas look like it had been spray painted on, another common theme is new and old, it shows that the band has both classic rock aspects but is new young and fresh.

For the track listing we used graffiti style font to reflect the bands image in the video, we used graffiti throughout our ancillary's and music video because it give a strong brand identity.

We used a brick wall as the background because it reflects the music video themes, as there were many run down wall with graffiti on them.

We organised the track listings scattered and in different fonts this was inspired by the graffiti where we filmed many of the graffiti was all over the walls and slanted.

Colours are very important to achieve a good brand identity, we have used dark colours such as black and brown to give a grunge feel, from our research it’s a typical convention for a rock band to uses dark colours. We also discovered that many bands use a bright colour to contrast with the dark colours.

As you can see the colours are very dark and grungy, the colours are very typical

Page 12: How effective is the combination of your main1

We used black and white, because from our research black and white are very common colours that work well together, this is the album advertisement, we want to clear show the band member but give them a mysterious look.

Page 13: How effective is the combination of your main1

We used large bold font, to make it clear for the audience to read the name, album and date. We also added our masks above we did this to keep the audience familiar with the masks

Page 14: How effective is the combination of your main1

Mise en scene is a huge part of how you get your brand identity across, we used our music video to show the style of band the rumour has it are. We see here the beginning of the video, we used a white background because it worked well with the black amp and the black glove in the video. The main focus is the amp and is clearly seen because of the contrast of colours.

Page 15: How effective is the combination of your main1

Mise en scene We choose a old power station to shoot the video, we

want to carry on the theme of old and new, the art work in the power station was amazing and added to the bands grungy, underground feel. The graffiti is one of the main themes to our band and have been consistent to show the audience a young artistic theme

Page 16: How effective is the combination of your main1

As you can see from the arrows we constantly show dirty rooms and graffiti, we chose our locations to film carefully, we wanted to show the audience this theme of graffiti and underground rock as clearly as possible

Page 17: How effective is the combination of your main1

Once again we see the band member is wearing the own mask, that Is different to the others. They are dressed in black following the typical conventions of rock music

Page 18: How effective is the combination of your main1

Here we have the first shot of the bands, and very similar to our last shot, we used this establishing shot to show all the band members and give the tone of the video and band in the first shot.

Page 19: How effective is the combination of your main1

We chose this room because of it art work, all the band members have there own room we used that to represent there nightmares they had during the narrative, we used this shot last because we wanted the audience to get a long look at the theme of the band. We particularly liked the graffiti “Fresh new blood” we felt it added to the video and showed the band members as victim of this haunting place.

Page 20: How effective is the combination of your main1

CinematographyWe wanted to give a scary feel to the music video, it is very common for rock bands to be shown as scary and evil such as Slipknot, Slayer, marylin Manson. We felt a shot were all the band members are looking right at the camera would give a feel of scariness

Page 21: How effective is the combination of your main1

Lighting We used red lighting because is portrays

violence, anger and hate, in our research we found many similar bands of this genre also use red lighting too, we felt it lives up to the expectations of the audience.

Page 22: How effective is the combination of your main1

We felt the red lights portray the anger in the lyrics well, we also had the performance very fast, we shot everything close up so the audience feel like there right their.

Conclusion

I believed we have an extremely strong brand identity, from our ancillary's we have kept a constant theme through out clear displaying the album and bands name throughout. The band now has a unique theme for a rock band by mixing typical conventions with new ideas
