Socio-Cultural Effects on Teachers

• When diversity makes an impact on a student's particular learning, social, or physical needs, then teachers need to know about the nature of that student. Teachers need to respect and learn about the factors in their students' makeup, backgrounds, or prior experiences that make a difference in who they are as individuals and how they learn and interact with others.

Generalize don’t stereotype• Stereotypes: absolute statements applied to all

members of a group, statements that ignore individual differences.

• Generalizations: offer information about groups that can help you teach more effectively. They are flexible insights that provide us with clues about groups, useful information for instructional planning.

• Educators should always ensure that their knowledge of students and their cultural backgrounds are reflected in their behavior towards their students.
