What if…

• Seatbelts, travel health insurance

• We don’t expect to have trouble during the tenure track, but it happens

• Don’t expect the administration to be on your side

Well, it happened.

• Wife had difficult pregnancy

• Project did not go smoothly

• Graduate students did not work hard in my absence

• I did not apply for a leave of absence

What do I do now?

• DTC negative decision – they will understand if I explain it to them

• UTC negative decision – why don’t they understand me

• Then I called MAUT

• Provost negative decision – Holy crap, I am up the creek. Why was I so stupid to not call them earlier?

MAUT knows what to do

• Prepared Appeal document

• Provided legal advice

• Set me up with advisor – Dr. Gowrisankaran

• Followed through with 3 levels of appeal

Dodged a bullet

• Final Appeal decision came back positively

• A lot of personal issues involved, a lot of legal and administrative wrangling

• But, I couldn’t have succeeded without MAUT
