Origins of this presentationMost people that watch H-I-M enough times notice that there are lots of mass (and / or) custom produced items that have never ever been shown.Showing how things are made is an old idiom, dating to the 1920s. The idiom from the 1940s to 1960s was everywhere. In the US this TV idiom was practically outlawed after 1980. The China Trade seemed to make it so and the NFB shorts were about the only way it could ever come back. This idiom now has to survive a global economic crisis, and peak resources.

The Discovery Networks (in the US) if it is not careful -- will end up on the Ash Heap of History due to the ongoing global economic crisis. There are too many TV networks in the English speaking world, and those that don't actually help their viewers (in any way) will cease to exist. Households are dumping Pay TV as a service, as there is no spare money in the economic system for it to exist. Pay TV nets in North America have economic models based on pure fantasy and perpetual neverending copyright is no help to the system.


Update the IdiomNarration is important. Having the same narrator all the time can lead a viewer to ignore the program entirely. Canada has scores of people skilled in narration [& in show biz] (& in the Industrial production of goods) >>> ALL must do comedy! Drama people are not a perfect fit...Keep your current narrators for about 2/3rds of each episode but have each guest do 2 full episodes.

Iodine Production (Seaweed)Iodine was discovered in Seaweed. The U Montreal Chemistry Department can do this process, or maybe the University in Halifax NS.Ribbon seaweeds contain iodine compounds which can be obtained by extracting Iodide ions from seawater.

Iodine can be extracted from the seaweed by heating it in air to an ash, in which the iodine is present as iodide.

The iodide is dissolved out of the residue by boiling water, the solution filtered and the iodide oxidised to iodine using hydrogen peroxide.

The iodine colours the solution brown at this stage. Isolating the iodine from this solution can be done by solvent extraction, followed by evaporation of the solvent.
