HOW MUCH SUGAR DO THE FOLLOWING PRODUCTS
CONTAIN? 8D´s assignment was to guess how many cubes of sugar there are in different products. The pupils were informed that one sugar cube weighs about 2,5 grams.
The pupils´guessings turned out to be sometimes right and sometimes wrong. Anyway, most pupils were surprised by
the high amount of sugar cubes when they saw them concretized in the box.
In 200 grams of candy you´ll “find” 88 sugar cubes...
In comparison 0,5 liters of Pepsi contains 28,”Mehukatti” 20 and the Ed energy drink 33 sugar cubes.
Seeing the cubes in the boxes makes it easier to realize the amount of sugar in different products and helps motivating
you in changing your eating habits.
During the following lesson the pupils visited the website: http://www.leipatiedotus.fi.
• On the site is a test calculating your daily sugar consumption. The pupils´results showed a great variety of between 12 and up to 100 sugar cubes a day.The discussion afterwards was rewarding and worth while as everyone was well aware of how much hidden sugar is added in our ”normal” everyday food and diet.
• You can make a reservation and get the ”sugarbox” from Hagalunds hälsocentral in Esbo.
