HOW PLANTS GROW
TWO PHASES IN THE LIFE CYCLE OF A
PLANT
VEGETATIVE STAGE- includes the growth
of roots, stems, and leaves.
REPRODUCTIVE STAGE- the development of
flowers, fruits and seeds take place.
THREE ESSENTIAL CONDITIONS FOR
GERMINATION
1.Amount of moisture - which is needed to soften the seed coat and to help in the circulation of food which the seed contains.
2.Oxygen - which when moisture is absorbed, oxygen takes in and carbon dioxide is given off by the seed.
3.Warmth and air in the soil - needed to germinate seeds like melon, corn beans, cucumber and tomatoes that’s why they are planted at the onset of dry season.

THE REPRODUCTIVE STAGE
A new stage in a plant life that begins production of flowers and ends with maturing of seeds. It is made up of organs like sepals, stamens, pistils,
and petals.
Hypocotyls - the part of the embryo that first
grows downward into the soil forms the stem of the seedling
Epicotyls - the young leaves of the new plant

ORGANS IN PRODUCTION OF
SEED
Pistils –are the female partof the flower whichconsists of an ovarywith an upright
extension.
Stamens – compose the male parts of the flower, each of which consists of a supporting filament and an anther where the pollen grain is produced.
Stigma-which lies on top ofthe style serves asthe pollen-receptivesurface.
Pollination- a process in which fertilization
takes place when a male nucleus in the pollen tube unites with the female nucleus of the ovule.
