Creating a Forum for Students to Reflect on a Video

Adding the Video Object

1. Go to the class Group where the reflection forum needs to take place. You need to upload the video object separate to the forum.

2. Click on Resources (1) in the Control Panel and then click on the Add Download icon (2)

3. Make sure that the video object is only visable to the group members (3) and then click the Browse button (4) to find where you have saved the video object on your computer. Once you

have selected the object it will appear in the File Upload box (5) Scoll down to the bottom of the page and click the Upload button

4. When uploaded the video will appear in the Left hand Navigation Panel (6)

Adding the Forum

1. Create the forum for reflection/discussion. Make sure that it is visible to the class only (7). Also tick the boxes so that members

can post and do not have to have their comments validated before they appear on the forum. Leave the “Who can Add Topics” empty (unless you want students to add more topics (not recommended)

2. Add the topic (8) – this is where the class will actually do their reflection/forum

3. Insert the details. To insert the video into the forum right-click on the video in the left hand navigation panel (9) and copy it’s

4. You then need to click the Flash icon in the toolbar (10). Paste the shortcut into the source box (11), set the width to 610 and height to 550 (12). Set looping to no (13). Click the OK button to insert the video object.

5. Put the mouse under the video display and type the questions (14). When you have finished click the Add Topic button (15)

6. If the video is loaded properly you will see it in the forum. If the light in the top-right corner isn’t green then the video won’t play. If it changes colour this means that you are losing the quality of the signal

The forum is now ready for students to reply to.
