Step 2

• Now that you learned how superheroes solve algebraic equations. Let’s work together using QuickMath to solve some problems. Click the link below to begin.

• QuickMath

• Enter these equations on the webpage:o 1. X + 5 = 10o 2. 5x – 2 = 12o 3. 3x – 8 = 13

Step 3

• Try Solving These on your own:

•1. 2x + 5 = 15•2. 3x + 3 = 9•3. 4x – 8 = 20

Neuroscience and Learning

• Our lesson was developed with the following considerations:o When students are engaged and enjoying the task, information is

transmitted to areas of the brain responsible for higher level cognition.

o During enjoyable classroom activities, the brain releases dopamine which stimulates memory.

o Students will connect to and remember materials that are motivating and can relate to real-life experiences. Melvin Levine also indicated that this will help adolescents with reduced attention to make students feel interested in what they are learning.

o Howard Gardner’s multiple intelligences outline the different learning styles that work best for students in the classroom. Keeping in mind it is important to include all 8 intelligences.

4 Features Included In Our Lesson• Video from Math Playground

o Teenager voice, Step-by-step instructions, colorful, and visual/auditory input that is motivating for students.

• Use of a sound object to read text to the student.o Lowers the cognitive demand. The student is able to concentrate on

learning the math concept without being distracted by reading difficulties.

• Lesson included graphics, sound bytes, and a superhero theme.o To increase the emotional connection and personal interest for the

student• Using QuickMath to explore sample problems.

o After Johnny views the video, he will be able to go on an adventure with QuickMath that outlines how to do a problem. The website incorporates a tool that allows Johnny to enter the exact problems given by the teacher. This way the problem is set up to utilize the skills Johnny already has.
