Our 4th Statement of faith:

I can do all things through Christ.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

• Afraid: Filled with apprehension, concern, dislike

• Terrified: Filled with terror

• Opposite of terrified: Fearless, unafraid

“Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid…” Matt 28:10

There are some things that we should be afraid of:

“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matthew 10:28

I may become terrified when I…

1. Don’t understand

“When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear.”

Matthew 14:26

“They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Mark 4:41

2. Made a big mistake

“When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, "Surely he was the Son of God!” Matthew 27:54

3. Have a bad dream

“I had a dream that made me afraid. As I was lying in my bed, the images and visions that passed through my mind terrified me.”

Daniel 4:5

4. It’s payback time

“Joseph said to his brothers, "I am Joseph! Is my father still living?" But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence.”

Gen 45:3

“Esther said, "The adversary and enemy is this vile Haman." Then Haman was terrified before the king and queen.” Esther 7:6

5. Feel trapped

“As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the LORD.”

How to become fearless

1. Keep my focus on Christ…

He will give me confidence

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Hebrews 12:2

“In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.” Ephesians 3:12

2. Keep my focus on Christ…

He will forgive

“For the sake of your name, O LORD, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.” Psalm 25:11

3. Keep my focus on Christ…

He will heal

“O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me.”

Psalm 30:2

4. Keep my focus on Christ…

He will provide

“Do not be terrified by them, for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God.”

Deut 7:21

5. Keep my focus on Christ…

He will deliver

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deut 36:1
