The first step to Breaking Through is Understanding “Human Behavior”

Human Behavior is based on the principle that people will only change to get

further away from pain or closer to pleasure.

As humans when we subconsciously perceive an activity or change as

uncomfortable, we will instinctively avoid it and rationalize our behavior in order

to justify staying the same. There is a very common unconscious process that

causes individuals to think that they are too busy, or that they are already doing

their best.

The more we can understand what’s naturally going on with people and within

ourselves, the more compassion, connection, and positive influence towards

CHANGE we can have as a parent, a leader, a professional, a loving partner or

a friend.

BREAKTHROUGH | RESISTENCE

3 things that cause resistance to Change

1) People resist change when they don’t “feel” like doing.

2) People resist change that they “perceive” as being “uncomfortable.”

3) People resist change because of “fear”

(fear of the unknown – What will happen if I make this change? Will it take me

you. The great summary statement of all religions, philosophies,

metaphysics, psychology, and success is this: You become what you

think about most of the time.

Auto Pilot: The Mind’s 3 Favorite Options

Generalization – Generalization is noticing how an experiences is similar

to other experiences. Generalizations can also contribute to limiting

beliefs. Generalizations become beliefs, and those beliefs then start to run

your life. Beliefs are so strong that when you have a belief, it starts to alter

what you perceive. Now all these external stimuli coming in have to get

through these belief filters. Your mind doesn’t really get the raw

information. It doesn’t get to choose anymore.

Deletion – Deletion is dropping away aspects of an experience. Deletion is

natural. When we can’t remember something or when we leave out the

background and other people in our memory that’s Deletion.

Distortion – Distortion is changing an experience from what is actually is

to some modified form of what it is.

Self-Oppression Can Block Us from Producing Results

Unfortunately, most oppression comes not from others but for a

source we least suspect: ourselves.

Self-oppression is the condition of letting our own negative

thoughts and actions restrict us. It is an “inside job”, a burdening

of our spirit by incessant doubt, worry, fear, and distraction.

None of us wants to be the cause of our own failure in life, yet

most often we are. Our own bad habits rip the vibrancy from life.

We are the ultimate oppressors of our own happiness.

That Self-Oppression keeps us trapped where we are: afraid to

try to change, afraid to take action and embrace change.
