How to choose modules as a Visiting Student
Module Choice Process
Before submitting your application please select the modules you are interested in studying at Edinburgh Napier University. Available modules are included in this document, allocated by School and subject/module choice group. These modules are only for Trimester 1, 2018. Students applying for the full academic year will select their Trimester 2 modules later in the year.
How to select modules
Visiting students will study three modules per trimester (unless your home university/study abroad provider advises otherwise). Each module equates to 10 ECTS credits and approximately 4-5 US credit hours.
Once you have a short list of modules from the lists below, you can view further details of each of your preferred modules by searching on the main module website: http://www.modules.napier.ac.uk
Please ensure you meet the pre-requisites and select a combination of modules based on any additional guidance provided.
Make a note of the module names and codes as you will need to enter this information into the application form. You are welcome to add more than three modules to your application so you have a larger selection to take to your home university for pre-approval.
You will be assigned to a School based on the modules you have selected and therefore must try to select at least two modules from the same Module choice group. Ideally, you will select three modules from the same Module group, or two from one group, and one of our popular General modules (LNG08107 Scottish Culture and Society, or TSM07104 Wine Studies).
For example, if you are interested in Social Sciences you can look at the Social Sciences module options only. You may select three modules from this group, or select only two and a third one from General module offerings as follows:
Three modules from the Social Sciences Module Group: 1. Contemporary British History 2. Introduction to Criminology 3. Politics in British Society
Two modules from the Social Sciences Module Group, and a third one from General:
1. Contemporary British History (from the Social Science group) 2. Introduction to Criminology from the Social Science group) 3. Scottish Culture & Society (from the 'General' options)
Selecting a minimum of two modules from one Module Group ensures quicker responses to applications, as your application can be more easily allocated to the most suitable School for approval.
Visiting students applying to Edinburgh Napier University under a reciprocal exchange partnership must take only the modules offered under the agreed module group/discipline area. Please speak to your home coordinator or contact us if you have any questions about which modules group(s) apply to you.
Our six academic schools are located between three different campuses. When selecting modules from different Module Choice Groups please be aware that you may be required to travel between campuses to attend lectures and tutorials.
Providing there is capacity on the modules you have chosen, you meet the entry requirements, and your timetable allows, then we will try to offer you the modules you have selected, however we cannot guarantee at this stage they will be available.
It is your responsibility to ensure that your module selection is acceptable to your home institution; you should also ensure that you keep your home institution aware of any updates to your module selections.
On the application form you will be required to submit your three preferred modules, as well as three
alternative modules.
What happens next? Selecting preferred modules is the first part of the process to prepare you for the online application.
Once you have made a note of your preferred modules, you must then complete the online
application form.
Please note that selecting modules as part of the application does not confirm your enrolment on these modules. You must input your selected modules to the online application form and an academic advisor may contact you regarding your module selection. You will either have modules confirmed prior to arrival via email, or on arrival, depending on the School you will be joining.
You will be requested to include the following documents with your online application:
• A recent academic transcript in English • If you are a non-native English Language speaker, a letter from your home university confirming
that your English language proficiency is at least B2 level. • A photocopy of the identity page in your passport or photocopy of Identity Card • We DO NOT need your CV, unless specifically requested. • DO NOT send us a passport photograph at this stage. If you are accepted, you will be asked to
submit one at the later stage. • Please make sure that these documents are ready to be attached when submitting your online
application form. We will not consider your application until we have all of the required documents.
Applications for Trimester 1, 2018 (September) entry are due by Monday 4th June, 2018
