this page to make it your own. You then can store your custom template in the SharePoint

site gallery. We will be showing how to do this later on in this document.)

5. Once you have selected a template, enter in a location on where the site will be stored. (Note:

Specify the location of the new Web site should display the URL to the Main SharePoint

2007 site. At the end of the URL enter a backslash if necessary and then enter in a name for

the new site to be added to the current SharePoint site.)

6. Click OK.

8. The new web site folder structure and files appear in SharePoint Designer.

9. Double-click default.aspx to open the home page. (Note: Since the new web site is based off

a SharePoint 2007 template, you do not see an index.htm page. The home page is named

default.aspx. If you look at the code behind this page, you will see additional coding that

deals with the SharePoint template.)

10. The web site‟s home page can now be modified.

11. Mouse over the different sections within the page and notice if the placeholder is on the

Master default.aspx or if it is a placeholder located on the home page which can be modified.

(Note: If the placeholder indicates master, then you need to open the default.master file to

make any changes to that placeholder. All of the pages will be based off that default.master,

and if the look and feel of it is changed then the changes will be visible throughout the web

site.)

12. In the Folder List window, to the left of _catalogs > masterpage (Master Page Gallery), click

the + sign

13. Double-click default.master.

14. Highlight the data in the SiteName placeholder and then enter in the new site name. For this

example, AV Online Booking Site was entered.

15. Just like in FrontPage, if you modify a page you‟ll see an * asterick to the left of the file

name in the associated tab.

16. Right click that tab and select Save.

17. Click Yes.

18. Click the default tab and make any additional changes. (Note: Make sure to save changes.)
