SS is generally considered the toughest ex amination in the country and plainly it is. Most of the people  – the aspirants of CSS–2011 – that I have been ased to address through this !riting must have been  preparing for this exam for at least past fe! months. I s hall also be specifically focusing on the myths and false notions that have bee n created in the minds of the CSS aspirants by the mushrooming industry of the CSS preparation academies. "heir purpose behind creating such false notions is to confuse the aspirants in order to ensure that the candidates #oin their academy. "his no t only causes !aste of money and time of the candidates #oining these academies$ but also creates confusion in the minds of many talented candidates$ !ho cannot afford their syroceting fee structure. %o!ever$ the candidates must eep this fact in mind that success in the CSS demands a good individual effort. &ut their effort must be honest and !ell'directed. In order to be successful in a competitive exam$ a candidate has to put some extra effort to mae his(her  paper better than others. So$ studying good boos enables a candidate to be better prepared and giving the ans!ers !ith an excellent presentation is e)ually important for scoring higher mars. In this piece of !riting$ I shall try to discuss some tips to attempt the compulsory papers. It has been observed that most people get less mars in compulsory papers. %o!ever$ !ith an effective approach$ a candidate can get reasonably high mars in these papers. My o!n score in optional sub#ects !as very lo! as compared to my fello! candidates of higher ranings but a higher score in compulsory papers brought me in top 10 candidates. *lso very often some brilliant candidates miss out in one compulsory paper despite getting very high score in all o ther  papers. So the compulsory sub#ects carry ey significance in the CSS. I shall discuss these papers one by one. English Essay Essay paper is considered as the toughest nut to crac. It is believed that this very first  paper decides one is going to pass the exam or not. Most of the candidates failed in this paper. * glance at past papers of +nglish essay !ould reveal that the essay topics on !hich a candidate is ased to !rite are generally only one aspect of the issues that the candidate may have prepared. If the candidate does not mae a distinction bet!een the issue and the specific aspect,s- of that issue  being ased in the paper$ he is liely to annoy the examiner. %ere it proves my point !hen I criticise the commercial aspects of so'called precious notes/ and essay as the candidates cram these ans!ers and !rite them as such in the paper. or instance$ one very ho t issue of the past three'four years is ar on "error or "errorism/. et us have a loo at the last t!o years/ papers3 2004 – 5aistan/s !ar on "error and its impacts on our national psyche and politico socio'economic fronts. 2010 – 6ialogue is the best course to combat terrorism. In both these papers$ only one aspect of the issue is ased and any generalised ans!er !ould not$ therefore$ accrue any merit. "his !as the reason !hy most people attempted these essays and failed.
