Here are pictures of the missing crotch in my granddaughters “PINK” Brand Victoria Secrets Yoga pants, the very cute dog, Brody, that ate them and the fold over waistband where the transplant “skin/fabric” came from to fix this problem. In this blog I will show you how to use a needle and thread and common household items to fix this problem.

Here are pictures of your tools you need for this project: a mixing bowl, wax paper, needle, thread, pins, a tiny tipped scissors, my favorite, Micro Tip Scissors, and optional,Thread Heaven Thread Conditioner. If you do not have a sewing machine for the final stitching, I will show you how to do a hand stitch seam that stretches.

First you need a pattern for the crotch replacement piece. Place wax paper over the damaged area of the front crotch section and mark onto the wax paper a line 1/8” inside the chewed edge. Mark reference points, center front crotch seamline, inside leg seamlines and tooth hole.

Next, flip the pants over to the back side, match up your reference points and continue the pattern to be a complete circle.

Add 1/8” to the pattern for a narrow seam allowance. Open the fold over waistband so that the under layer is exposed. Pin the pattern to the under layer and very carefully so as not to cut through to the top layer cut the pattern of the under layer only.

Slide the yoga pants onto the mixing bowl so that the single layer you want to pin the patch to is supported by the hard surface of the mixing bowl. Now you can pin and not catch the rest of the yoga pant into your patch. Match up your guides as best you can. Fold 1/8” of the patch under and pin the folded edge to the pant. Run a contrasting thread through the thread Heaven. This strengthens the thread and keeps it from snarling.

Take the tiniest bite possible with the tip of the needle into the pant and then through the fold in the patch. Do this every ¼”.

Turn the pant to wrong sides out and find the basted seamline. For Sewing with a machine pick the longest straight stitch possible, and stitch down the middle of the basting. Now choose a narrow not too short zig-zag and zig-zag over the baste stitch. The zig –zag stitch can stretch and not break as you move in the Yoga Pants. If you are hand stitching, take tiny stitches up and then down creating a zig-zag effect by hand so this stitch will not break. When you move in the pants.
