AUTHOR CONTENT FOR STUDENTENERGY.ORG 2.0 Student Energy is updating its Energy Systems Map for 2020, to add a new category of ‘Influences’ - these are the important social, ecological, and policy factors that intersect with the energy system. We are also updating several of the existing topics on the map to reflect changes that have taken place in that field since 2015. The Energy Systems Map has reached over 3 million annual users since it was first launched in 2015. The map is co- created by young people, so we are seeking young leaders from a variety of backgrounds who are keen to share their expertise by acting as a Content Author. PARTICIPATE IN THE GLOBAL YOUTH ENERGY OUTLOOK In February 2020 Student Energy will begin the research phase of the first Global Youth Energy Outlook. Working with ten regional youth coordinators around the world, Student Energy will gather the perceptions of young people on the world’s next ten years of the energy transition. Central to this research will be youth-defined priorities for action in policy, investment, technology and social systems change. Interested in getting involved in the 2020 Outlook? Click here. 4. ATTEND THE 2020 SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FOR ALL FORUM IN KIGALI, RWANDA Join Student Energy at the upcoming Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) Forum, hosted in Kigali, Rwanda from May 26-28. The 2020 SEforALL Forum will be a major movement in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 on universal access to clean energy, providing a global platform to mobilize resources, connect partners and showcase action to realize the promise of the sustainable energy revolution for everyone. Student Energy will facilitate a working session on the Global Youth Energy Outlook with an emphasis on the Sub-saharan Africa Energy Transition, and a Clean Energy Policy Hackathon where actors will pitch real challenges they are working on and youth will collaborate to design policy solutions. upcoming opportunities

1. 2021 STUDENT ENERGY LEADERS FELLOWSHIP

Student Energy Leaders Fellowship is a 10-month web-based program that is paired with a practicum project. The program provides future work skills training, energy knowledge, connections to global leaders and young professionals, and the hands-on experience young people need to take action. Young people will complete the fellowship program ready to pursue their big ideas in energy as an entrepreneur or intrapreneur working with companies, governments, organizations and research institutions.

2. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ENERGY SUMMIT 2021

In March 2020 Student Energy will announce the winning bid of the 2021 International Student Energy Summit. The winning bid will determine the location, host university and organizing committee of the next SES. Student Energy Global will begin training and working with the team — including a team visit in summer 2020 — over 18-months to successfully hold the seventh biennial Student Energy Summit: the largest convening in the world for students on the energy transition.

5. GREENPRENEURS YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP ACCELERATOR

In Summer 2020 Student Energy will launch the third year of Greenpreneurs, a virtual social enterprise accelerator delivered in partnership with Youth Climate Lab and the Global Green Growth Institute. The program supports fifteen teams in developing economies to build a strong business plan for their enterprise, by connecting them to local operational support, global mentorship and the opportunity to win one of three microgrants. The program focuses on enterprises working on solutions for renewable energy, water and sanitation, green city development, and sustainable agriculture. Alumni of the program have gone on to win international awards and investment for their enterprises. The Energy Systems Map is the premier tool for anyone wanting to learn about the energy system to dive in, explore and engage. Energy is complicated, so the Energy Systems Map breaks information down in an unbiased way so students can have an accessible entry point. A suite of influences on the energy system will soon be introduced as new additions to the platform, including climate change, carbon markets, energy policy, energy access, and more!
