We at Bromley Youth Offending Team recognise that parenting teenagers and young children can be challenging, especially if a young person gets into trouble.

How can we help?

We can offer support to Parents, Grandparents and carers through:

• One-to-one sessions

• Telephone support

• Short courses

• Parenting programme

We offer this support in a number of ways:

Voluntary Support Voluntary Support is where a parent asks for support, or where we suggest it, and the parent agrees that this will benefit them.

Voluntary Parenting ContractThe YOT works with parents for up to three months to set goals and targets and helps establish an Action Plan. This will help the parent/carer to achieve these targets.

A Parenting OrderA Parenting Order is made when a Court feels that providing parents with support would be likely to help them manage a young person’s behaviour, especially where the parents have not wanted to get involved before.

A Parenting Order can last for a minimum of three months and maximum of a year. A member of YOT will help devise an Action Plan to meet the requirements of the order.

Any parent/carer that a young person lives with, including a step-parent or a parent who is not living with the child, but who has regular contact, can receive an order. Support is for fathers as well as mothers.

If you do not carry out a requirement of the Order, for example if you miss an appointment without a valid reason, then the YOT Officer would follow breach procedures. This procedure will be explained to you on your initial meeting at the YOT.

We aim to support parents to prevent offending behaviour and through our free courses allow parents to share ideas and experiences in a caring and supportive environment.
