How to install ODK CollectAnd how to use it

Two ways to collect data

1) Manually – with pencil and paper (GPS & camera) and then enter data into excel.

2) Digitally – with the app ODK Collect, data sent database

All data collected will be submitted by the research team digitally

ODK Collect

Install and use ODK Collect on your android phone or tablet.

1. Open Google play

and download ODK

2. Open ODK Collect on your phone or tablet

3. In ODK Collect click on the three dots in upper right corner

Choose General settings Choose Server

Click on ‘URL’

Under Server URL write:

https://ipsn-seagrass.appspot.com/

Click OK

4. Go back to General Settings. Click Form management

And tick box for automatic download

Possible to change the image size that will be saved in the app. If you have poor access to internet you may want to save the images in low or medium size.

6. Back in General Settings. Select User interface. Make the changes you prefer, e.g. Basemap Satellite.

7. Go back to main menu. Select Get Blank Form

Click OK, then you are ready to start collectiong data with the ODK Collect.

• Forms are always saved with a date, so that you are always sure to use the latest version.

To download the forms.

It is possible to change language (only available if there are translations).

Select the 3 dots in the upper right corner to change language.

Then select ’change language’ and choose the language that you want.

To collect GPS coordinates, make sure your GPS on your device is turned on.

Each time you fill in data, please save before you advance the screen by swiping left

Make sure you have an accuracy if 5 meters or less.

9. Submit collected data

At the end of the form, select Save Form and Exit.

It is possible to edit saved form.

ODK Collect

• After installing the app, practice how to use it. There is a form for testing the app, you can fill in as many forms of the test that you like.

• Remember to save often

• Make sure the date and time setting on your device is correct.

• It is possible to use airplane mode to save battery, your GPS will still work. The GPS also sometimes works better if the Wifi and internet is turned off.

Problems?

• Double check that you have the latest version, updates available in GooglePlay.

• Restart your phone and the app.

• Wait and try again, there might be some updates on the server.

• Contact IPSN, if problem remains.
