How To Make

A Jurassic World Cake

Edibles

R 1kg Sattina golden delight Madeira cake mix

R 500g Sattina vanilla frosting

RJurassic World Fallen Kingdom PhotoCake Topper

R 1kg Sattina bright orange sugarpaste

RSugarflair red, tangerine, primrose, liquorice paste food colouring

R Rejuvenator spirit, royal icing, edible glue

Equipment

R 10″ x 8″ rectangular tin

R 14″ x 12″ rectangular cake board

R Scissors, paint palette, flat paintbrush

R Small paint brush for glue, PME veining tool

RDisposable piping bags, PME cake smoother

R PME blade and shell tool, small sponge

R Small palette knife, Tin foil

R Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur cake topper

Step 1. Decorating The BoardBrush a little cooled boiled water over the cake board. Knead approximately 300g of orange sugarpaste until soft and pliable, sprinkle the work surface with icing sugar then roll out the icing large enough to cover the board. Lift the icing onto the board, smooth over with a cake smoother and cut away the excess icing around the edge. To create a rough rock effect on the icing, make a ball out of tin foil and repeatedly press it onto the sugarpaste about 3″ around the sides of the board.

To create the design on the board, mix some tangerine powder colouring with water or rejuvenator spirit to form a paint. Use a flat brush to paint large brush strokes around the sides of the board – it’s actually better to paint quickly than spend time thinking about each stroke so that you create an irregular pattern.

To create even more texture, flick some of the paint over the board to create a ‘splattered’ effect. Leave to dry.

Handy HintUsing rejuvenator spirit or clear alcohol allows the paint to dry quicker!

Step 2.Make a paint out of yellow powder colouring, keeping the consistency quite thick, and sponge over the board.

Step 3. To create a lava effect, colour some royal icing with the tangerine colouring and pour into a disposable piping bag. Cut a small hole in the tip of the bag, randomly pipe ‘splodges’ onto the design then leave to dry. Leave overnight to set firm.

Decorating The Cake

Step 1.

Slice, fill and cover your cake in buttercream or frosting on a spare cake board. Knead approximately 700g of orange sugarpaste until soft and pliable and large enough to cover the cake. Lift onto the cake smoothing first the top with a cake smoother, then down the sides cutting off the excess icing around the bottom edge.

Using PME blade tool and veining tool, mark deep random cuts into the icing while it’s still soft then make smaller marks with a knife. If you do not have any tools, use the end of a fine paint brush!

Paint the cake using some liquorice paste colouring mixed with rejuvenator spirit making sure you use a large flat paint brush. You can leave the centre of the cake as it will be covered with the PhotoCake Jurasic World edible print. To mimic lava and match the board design, splatter some red paint randomly over the icing.

Step 2. Finish the design with some yellow paint sponged onto a few sections of the cake and leave the cake to dry overnight.

Step 3. To attach the cake to the board, smear some buttercream or royal icing onto the board then carefully lift the cake into place. Because the cake board and cake were left to dry overnight, the icing should be farely firm and easier to handle!

Step 4. Take the PhotoCake print out of the bag and peel away the backing paper.

Step 5. Use a sharp pair of scissors and carefully cut around the design.

Step 6. Attach the edible print to the cake with a little edible glue.

Step 7. Adding a dinosaur decoration is optional but adds another element of fun to the cake and a little present that can be kept after the cake has been eaten!
