How to make your own air cannon! – From www.fun-science.org.uk You will need: A paper cup A plastic lid (like the kind you find on McFlurries) A balloon Scissors Tape Step 1 – Cutting the bottom of the cup Before you do this step, remember that scissors are sharp and make sure you ask an adult to help you. You will need to turn your cup upside down and cut out the bottom so you end up with a tube. The easiest way to do this is to make a hole in the middle of the base and then cut out from there. Step 2 – Attach the balloon What we are going to do is spread the balloon over the hole you just made. This works best if you blow the balloon up and let it deflate a few times first. When your balloon is nice and stretched, cut the tip off and stretch it over the hole you just made – you may need to ask an adult or a friend to help you! Use some of your tape around the edge to make it nice and secure. Step 3 – Attach the plastic top to the other end and start firing air by pulling your balloon back and letting it go. This works because as you make the volume inside the cup bigger, air rushes in. As the balloon springs back and the volume gets lower, the air is pushed out really fast! How to make your own air cannon! – From www.fun-science.org.uk

You will need:

A paper cup A plastic lid (like the kind you find on McFlurries) A balloon Scissors Tape Step 1 – Cutting the bottom of the cup Before you do this step, remember that scissors are sharp and make sure you ask an adult to help you. You will need to turn your cup upside down and cut out the bottom so you end up with a tube. The easiest way to do this is to make a hole in the middle of the base and then cut out from there.

Step 2 – Attach the balloon

What we are going to do is spread the balloon over the hole you just made. This works best if you blow the balloon

up and let it deflate a few times first. When your balloon is nice and stretched, cut the tip off and stretch it over the

hole you just made – you may need to ask an adult or a friend to help you! Use some of your tape around the edge

to make it nice and secure.

Step 3 – Attach the plastic top to the other end and start firing air by pulling your balloon back and letting it go. This

works because as you make the volume inside the cup bigger, air rushes in. As the balloon springs back and the

volume gets lower, the air is pushed out really fast!
