Measuring for new drapes:Measuring for new drapes:

Measure the width of your window and include the window casing, if any.

Return is the distance from the wall to the front face of the rod, and is usually four inches. Add the return distance twice, once for each side.

Add four inches to overlap the two drapery pairs at the center when the drapes are closed .

If you want your window completely visible with the drapes open, add additional distance to allow space for the retracted drapes. This added space (called stackback ) improves privacy and reduces light when the drapes are closed. To allow for stackback space, add fifteen percent of the window width. Multiply the window width by 0.15.

Record your measurements in the measurement worksheet to the right and total. Select the Drapery width to order from the chart to the right.

The curtain rod should be placed so that the top of your drapes are above the top of your window . The bottom edge of your drapes can be positioned to the window sill , below the window sill and apron , or to the floor . Measure from your desired upper position to the desired bottom position. If measuring to the floor, subtract one half inch for floor clearance.
