Wine & cuisineNew Zealand is known for its great food and is enjoying a growing reputation for producing quality wines especially Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.

New Zealand restaurants often feature a unique cuisine termed “Pacific Rim” which draws on New Zealand’s fresh produce and seafood along with the flavours and cooking methods of countries that share the Pacific Ocean.

SHOPPINGMerino wool and possum fur products as well as New Zealand wine and gourmet treats are a great buy.

For traditional souvenirs looks for examples of Maori carvings in wood, bone or pounamu (greenstone or jade). You can find jewellery and ornaments made from iridescent paua shell (abalone) treasured by Maori for centuries.
