The following are step-by-step instructions on how to register with the PHIA website, complete the course and the Final Exam - a small test of 10 multiple choice questions. Please note, if you are already familiar with PHIA, you can register and proceed directly to the Final Exam to get your certificate. Welcome to PHIA, the Personal Health Information Act. The course covers all of the information you

need, but if you'd like more information regarding PHIA you can visit the provincial government

website at http://www.health.gov.nl.ca/health/phia/.

The following are step-by-step instructions on how to register with the PHIA website, complete the

course and the Final Exam - a small test of 10 multiple choice questions. Please note, if you are already

familiar with PHIA, you can register and proceed directly to the Final Exam to get your certificate.

Registering should take between 2-15 minutes; the course materials will take between 30-75 minutes,

and; the final exam will take approximately 3-15 minutes. The range of times depends on your

Go to http://nlchi.skillbuilder.ca/home and click the Sign Up link.

You'll be taken to the Create Account Wizard. DO NOT enter an Employee / Student ID; click on the

Next button.

You'll be taken to the Personal Information page, which requires just an email address, your name, the

fact you work for Memorial, and a password so you can access this account in the future. (See next

page.)

(Even though the screen says the

password isn't case sensitive, it

seems to make a difference, so

make sure your password has a

capital letter and a number to be

accepted as a strong password.)

You're almost done registering. Click Submit.

Once you click Submit, the website will send a confirmation code to your email address and take you

to the next screen.

Check your email. If an email doesn't arrive within 10 minutes, then check your Junk or Spam Email

folder. Find the email from nl.skillbuilder.ca and copy and paste the confirmation code. Click Confirm.

Alternately, you can click the link in the email and that will automatically confirm you as well.

Once you've confirmed then you can see the courses.

If you don't see the above screen, then Sign Out (link in top right-hand corner) and sign back in. The

website should automatically take you to the Courses page when you sign back in, but if it doesn't for

some reason, here's how you find the courses: click on Courses and then Course Access.

If you see the following , then click on the title Courses or the + sign to open up the list:

Enrol in the second course in the list called 'Direct Contact with Personal Health Information' by

clicking the Enrol button.

You'll be taken to a page with a short course description. Click the Enrol button on this page to confirm

that yes, you really do want to enrol!

After you click Enrol a second time, the website should re-direct you to the page where you can

complete the course materials. Click here:

If you don't see the above page, then go back to the My Courses page, and in the section called My

Course click the View button beside the course Direct Contact with Personal Health Information, and

you'll be taken to the Launch Course page above.

PLEASE NOTE: If you're already familiar with PHIA, you don't have to read the course materials again:

you can do the final exam of 10 multiple choice questions right away and get your certificate. On the

above page, click Final Exam and you'll be taken to the test immediately.

Take your time and work through the course materials. The instructions should be pretty clear as you

work through the chapters:

When you're done the course materials it's time for your final exam - which consists of 10 multiple

choice questions and is very straight forward. Navigate to this page and click Final Exam.

The next page you'll see is this one. Type in your logon password here, and click on validate…

… and you're ready to take the exam. Click Continue to Exam.

When you're done, the website automatically takes you to a survey for feedback on your experience.

You can complete the survey if you like, but it's not necessary.

Close your browser, then re-open it, go to http://nlchi.skillbuilder.ca/home , and sign back in.

Navigate back to the Courses page. You'll see a new section at the bottom called My Completions. If

you see a '+' sign like the example below, then click the '+' sign or the words My Completions.

Under Certificate, click Print and the certificate will open as a PDF. You can print the certificate and

bring it in to us, or fax it to 777-4391, or download a copy for your records and email us a copy as an

attachment.

If you'd like to download the certificate and email us a copy, click the download button and save the

certificate to an easy place to find, like your desktop.

In Firefox, the download button is in the top right hand corner:

In Internet Explorer, when you hover the cursor over the bottom of the screen, a toolbar will appear.
