What is Twitter Twitter is an information network consisting of
millions of users. Users post “tweets,” which are 140 character updates, about anything that they want.
With over 200 million registered users, Twitter is a potential goldmine for referrals, if used properly.
Things You Will Need A Twitter Account
A relevant blog or article containing your referral links
A URL shortener (optional: Twitter has one built in, but services like bit.ly allow for tracking)
How to Find Potential Referrals Use Twitter Search to find people tweeting things like
“I want a Macbook Pro,” or “I need a new laptop.”
Twitter Advanced Search (Useful if you need more control over a search): https://twitter.com/#!/search-advanced
Starting a Conversation Once you find a potential referral, you can start a
conversation by quoting them and retweeting part of their post, along with a link to a relevant article on your blog.
When to Post You should be trying to find new referrals for about an
hour each day. You can devote more or less time to Twitter as you see fit.
It doesn’t really seem to matter much what time of day you look for referrals. Whenever there are more people online, there will also be more competition. Choose what time works best for you.
Tips Keep a list of people that you have contacted. This
way, you can keep finding new referrals, rather than accidentally promoting to the same few people.
Try to only carry on a conversation with 1 or 2 people at a time. This will help you to keep track of each conversation.
Be consistent. Be sure to search and post every day. Good habits will make getting referrals easier
Warnings Do not use automated software to contact your
referrals. You cannot carry on a natural conversation this way, and you will quickly be flagged as a spammer. This will get your Twitter account suspended.
Likewise, do not just blindly post a referral link. People tend to frown upon that.
