This booklet contains the schedules of all courses taught to the predoctoral dental and dental
hygiene students in the College of Dentistry. Also, it contains the College of Dentistry’s
academic calendar and examination schedules for the current academic year. Please be advised
that the calendar and schedules are subject to change without advance notice.
Students in the College of Dentistry are expected to attend all scheduled lectures, laboratories
and clinic assignments. Attendance taken in the classrooms, laboratories and clinics is related
directly to student accountability and professional responsibility. When students miss twenty
percent (20%) of scheduled classes, laboratories or clinic assignments for which they have not
secured an approved excuse, three percentage (3%) points will be deducted from their final
grade in that course.
Requests for excused absences must be submitted to the Office of the Associate Dean for
Academic Affairs within twenty-four (24) hours following the absence, unless the student is too
ill to do so, and must be accompanied by the necessary supporting documents. Requests for
excused absences for missed examinations or quizzes due to illness will be processed by the
Office of the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs. All other excuses will be
provided by the respective course directors.
An unexcused absence from any scheduled examination will result in a zero (0) grade for
that examination
Students, who receive excuses, must make arrangements with the Course Director of the missed
examination, within forty-eight (48) hours of returning to school, to take the make-up
examination. The make-up examination must be taken within 5 business days of the students
return. All make-up examinations not given or rescheduled within the specified time indicated,
due to negligence on the part of the student, will result in an F grade (numerical grade of Zero)
for that examination.
Excused absence from clinic service assignments must be made up at a subsequent date approved
by the departmental chairman and the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs.
During the final examination period, all classes and clinics are suspended. The examination
schedules for First Year Dental students (D1) are published separately.
Grades in the College of Dentistry are reported as: A (excellent); B (above average); C
(average); and F (failing).
vi
The Executive Committee of the College of Dentistry will review and make recommendations
concerning the academic performance of each student at the end of each semester and the
Summer Session.
Satisfactory performance is required in all courses for promotions and graduation.
In addition, Second Year (D2) students are required to take and pass Part I and of the National
Dental Board Examinations before promotion to the Third Year Dental (D3) Class and must also
take and pass Part II to receive a diploma from the College of Dentistry.

ETHICS AND PROCEDURES FOR EXAMINATIONS
in the
COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY
EXAMS WILL BE ADMINISTERED EXCLUSIVELY VIA EXAM SOFT AND BLACKBOARD ON
PERSONAL LAPTOPS AND COMPUTERS. ALL PERSONAL COMPUTERS SHOULD BE IN GOOD
WORKING ORDER AND FREE OF NON ACADEMIC MATERIAL TO FACILITATE THE
DOWNLOADING OF EXAMS. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE EXCUSED FROM TAKING A SCHEDULED
EXAM DUE TO LACK OF ADEQUATE SPACE ON THE COMPUTER, THE EXISTENCE OF VIRUSES,
OR ANY OTHER COMPUTER PROBLEM. STUDENTS SHOULD NOTIFY THE OFFICE OF
ACADEMIC AFFAIRS AT LEAST TWO DAYS (48 HOURS) PRIOR TO EXAMS ABOUT EXISTING OR
POTENTIAL COMPUTER PROBLEMS SO THAT OTHER ARRANGEMENTS MAY BE MADE.
1. Bags, books, papers, cellular phones, pagers, coats, caps, hats, and other miscellaneous
materials are not allowed in testing rooms during examinations. First offenders who are
found with any of the aforementioned IT items will be dismissed from the exam and will
earn a zero for the exam. Second and subsequent offenders may be suspended and/or
dismissed from the College of Dentistry.
2. If a room Proctor notices any student clearly copying answers from another student, the
copier should be notified that his activities have been observed and that a report is being
sent to the Dean, but the student should be allowed to complete the examination. The
Proctor should, in this instance, submit a written report of his/her action to the Dean,
“Irregularity Noted” affix the date and time. If the Proctor notices that copying is going
on and the one being copied from is obviously not a participant, then the student should
be moved to keep him/her from being placed in jeopardy of being the “Innocent By-
Stander”.
3. If any student or proctor is of the opinion that facilities for any examination are too
crowded or poorly arranged for a student to protect his/her answers, such student or
proctor should immediately register a complaint with the individual who is in charge.
In the event that prompt, corrective action is not or cannot be taken, then the student or
proctor should register the appropriate complaint in writing to the Dean immediately
following completion of the examination.
4. Each student is responsible for protecting the integrity of his/her answers. If cheating
is noted during the examination, or if cheating is disclosed by the computer during
processing, candidates involved, whether they be copiers or those copied from, are
subject to penalty. The matter will be referred to the Judiciary Board of the College
followed by appropriate recommendations to the Dean for punitive action (suspension
and/or expulsion is the usual penalty for cheating). This warning notice will NOT be
repeated, but will be in effect and applicable to all examinations in the College of
Dentistry.
ix
5. If the form of cheating is not copying from another individual, but involves the use of
notes, papers, books, or other miscellaneous materials or procedures, then the procedure
for verification, as stated above, should be followed. The item should be taken from the
student and the student should be allowed to complete the examination. A written report
of the incident, as well as, the “evidence” taken from the student must be sent to the
Dean.
6. Talking or any other form of verbal or non-verbal communication will NOT be allowed
during examinations. If any student is observed talking, signaling with fingers or other
objects, he/she should be told to stop and written verification noted (as indicated above).
This observance must be followed by a written notice to the Dean. If the student is
observed talking, signaling, etc., a second time, the student should be dismissed from
the examination and should report, immediately, to the Dean or his designee. An
oral report must be submitted immediately to the Dean, followed by a written report from
the Proctor.
7. Proctors and students share responsibility for the integrity of the exams. The student will
retake any examination for which any irregularity is found.
8. Students will remain seated after concluding their examinations and simply raise their
hands for the Proctor ‘s approval to be dismissed. They will then leave the examination
room and are not permitted to loiter outside the examination room nor in any adjacent
hallways.
9. During examinations, which are two or more hours, students will be allowed to take one
bathroom break to use restroom facilities after obtaining permission from the proctor(s).
