How do I apply?
Before you can apply, you must gure out for which types of nancial aid you areeligible. If you are not a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident, you will not qualifyfor the nancial aid offered by the federal or state government. However, there aremany private sources of nancial aid (scholarships) that do not requirecitizenship. Look through La Plazas Scholarship Guide for a list of availablescholarships!

You can receive scholarships, grants, loans,and work-study money from the government.This nancial aid is based on nancial need,which is determined by you and your parentsincome information from the IRS 1040 TaxReturn forms.
Fill out the FAFSA (Free Application forFederal Student Aid) by March 1st of everyschool year. Find the application and moreinformation at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
You can receive scholarships from many differentsources. Scholarships are often based on academicmerit, career interest, talent, community service,GPA, and nancial need.
Each scholarship has its own application processand eligibility requirements. Common requirementsof the application include: application form,transcript, ACT/SAT test scores, essays, resumeand letters of recommendation.

Getting Involved Many scholarships favor students in extracurricular and volunteer activities.

Researching colleges Almost all colleges offer scholarship opportunities.
Career related scholarships If a career interests you, look for scholarships in that eld.

It may be a lot of work but in the end it PAYS OFF!
Call La Plaza to nd out about scholarship opportunities.
Talk to each scholarship organization to nd out what they consider a great scholarship application .
Attend Education Fairs and College Visits and talk to representatives from each college ask themwhat types of scholarships they offer.
Check in with your Guidance Counselor frequently to nd out if they have new scholarship information.
Ask teachers with whom you have a good relationship if they will write letters of recommendation for you.
Contact businesses, churches, and local organizations to ask if they offer any scholarships.
The most successful students are those who ask for help when they need it.You should be proactive in your search for scholarships.

Saritas Story
Sarita will need to pay $1,695 for the school year, or approximately $212 per month for eight months.
Sarita wants to study business at IUPUI. Shes Latina and the rst person in her family to attend college.She has good grades, a 3.2 GPA, and 1110 SAT/24 ACT. During high school, Sarita volunteered monthlyat a soup kitchen and participated in other community events. She is in the Latino Student Club at her school.
