Hewlett Packard Client Automation Standard/Starter Cheat Sheet
Background This document is designed to be used as a fast track guide to installing Hewlett Packard Client Automation Standard edition. It is designed to give the Systems Administrator a simple guide to follow so they can setup up a Proof of concept for initial testing of Client Automation 7.5 as part of an evaluation process. It is not designed to go over best practice of every feature of Client Automation but rather an enablement tool for a POC.
Client Automation Version This document refers to Client Automation Standard 7.5 released by Hewlett Packard in June 2009; this document is applicable to Starter Edition also.

Prerequisites for success First we need to ensure we have setup the prerequisites to ensure we have everything in place before we install Client Automation Standard 7.5 Server Requirements – dedicated server (32 or 64 bit)
1. Windows Server 2003 SP2 or Windows Server 2008 with o Internet Information Services (IIS) – for vPro SCS o Microsoft dotnet 2.0 or greater o Adobe Flash Player – console users flash o Sun Java installed o 2GB RAM Min – 4GB+ recommended o Dual Core CPU o 40GB Hard Disk recommended
2. Database Server – SQL o Microsoft SQL 2005 SP2 or greater – (mixed mode) o Microsoft SQL Express 2005 or 2008 o Must use SQL Default static port of 1433 o Must use SQL Authentication
Note: Intel SCS database not supported on SQL 2008
3. Administrator privileges o SQL - you need to have the SQL Authentication
username/Password o If using HP Client Automation to setup the HPCA
database the account you use to install must have the correct privileges on SQL to create a database (SQL Authentication)

o Windows Domain user account – you also need to consider the user account used to rollout the agent to local machines, it must have install rights on the local machines – suggested you create a domain level service account for HPCA administration
Flow of installation 1. Ensure Pre-requisites are meet as per above
Note: Pre-Reqs will mean a successful installation 2. Install HP Client Automation 3. Log on to evoke the first time setup wizard 4. Login to the Console to manage devices 5. Next steps

Part 2 Installation of HP Client Automation
Step 1 From the ISO DVD download from the above link navigate to \setup-core\setup.exe, double click on it to run
Step 2 HP Client Automation setup, click next to start the installation

Step 3 Accept the EULA (End user license agreement), then click next
Step 4 Accept the default application installation Path, click next

Step 5 Accept the default data installation path, click next to continue
NOTE: In a production environment you may change this directory as your OS images are stored here and you don’t want to run out of space on the C Drive
Step 6 Confirm the server name you are installing Client Automation on

Click Next to continue
Step 7 Accept the default communication ports, click next to continue
Note: Please take note of these ports and PC firewalls and AV may need to have a rule amended for client to server and server to client communication
Step 8 Click next to process with the installation, click next to continue
Note: The installation will take between 2 and 8 mins depending on your server’s specifications.
Step 9 Completing the installation

Now click finish which will automatically open the Client Automation Console
Part 3 First Time logon to the HP Client Automation Console
Step 1 Log in to the Client Automation Standard Console
Username: admin Password: secret
Step 2 First Time set up wizard, click next
Step 3 Enter you license information (via copy and paste)

Note: If you don’t have a license key the install will auto create a 90 day unlimited node key of Standard Edition
Step 4 Creating a connection, tick “Create and Configure a new database (SQL Only).
In this case we create a new database on and existing Microsoft SQL Server.
Step 5 The DSN and Database default to the name “HPCA_CORE”, it is recommended you do not change this, enter your SQL server IP Address, the username/password must be SQL Authentication, click next

Step 6 The First Time wizard auto enabled the below three services, click next
Step 7 HP Client Automation now connects to SQL and creates the database settings etc
Step 8 Once completed the setup wizard will confirm the succeeded processes, click finish

Your installation and Base Configuration is now Complete
Next Steps Now you have completed the install the next steps are as follows
1. Import Devices into the Console, via Device Management Tab 2. Install the management Agent onto the import devices 3. Completed Hardware and Software Discovery of devices 4. Configure Remote Control of devices for in band and out of
band control 5. Enable Softpaq Acquisition (driver updates) for HP devices 6. Enable Microsoft Patch Management 7. Software management – includes by application packaging and
Application Self Service 8. Operating System Management – creating and managing a
gold desktop/laptop image for deployment 9. Reporting – configuration of reporting for Patch compliance,
application usage, device management etc.
