Environmental Program at HP Indigo
Environment become “lifestyle” in all Indigo business activities; Design with environment in mind (DfE) is part of our spec
• HP Indigo established an environment program since 2007 that includes representatives from all business disciplines engaged with: – Product development and sales/customer support
– Operation: manufacturing lines, supply chain and sub-contractors
– In house saving initiatievs

on Demand Consumables take-back and deinking
Digital on-demand can help to reduce the carbon footprint of printing
• ECONOMICS that allow cost effective short runs – printing what you need, when and where you need it
• Variable data printing for more CUSTOMIZED and TARGETED content, allowing the same result to be achieved with less printed material
• Drastically reduced printing process WASTE
• Reduced print TRANSPORTATION from printing less and the potential to print closer to end user
Shift to digital offers the potential to reduce this footprint by up to 251 million tons CO2e - some 30%1

1st Level, Meet standards and compliance
• All HP Indigo facilities meet ISO 14001and certified by the
Israel Bureau of Standards
• Indigo products meet HP strict standards files GSE (General
Specification for the Environment)
• GSE advises all bodies associated with HP products and
materials containing RoHS, REACH, Packaging, Marking on
plastics, DfE and DfR - Design for the Environment and for
Recyclability

Best Available Control Technology (BACT)
• Made possible by the United States Clean Air Act. The federal, state or district environmental regulatory agency.
The Bay Area Quality district in California formally recognized the imaging oil capture, control and recycling system in the HP Indigo 7000 digital press as Best Available Control Technology for reducing air pollution. BACT is intended to reduce emissions to the maximum extent possible considering technological and economic feasibility.
Over 80 tons/month of printed pages generated in
HP Indigo facilities are sent to recycling.

Arjowiggins completes Indigo deinking trial
By Adam Hooker Thursday, 22 December 2011
Consumables manufacturer Arjowiggins Graphic
and digital press manufacturer HP have successfully
completed a deinking trial for digital paper at its
Greenfield Mill in France.
During the trial the two companies deinked paper waste
containing 5% HP Indigo printed paper combined with
The standard mix of print waste.

Reuse of treated oil
• Sludge concentration using special equipment
• Reuse oil for cleaning and heating purposes
• Oil recycling with 3rd party to be used for other applications
• Packages optimization and recycling process
Improving efficiency and energy conservation
• Solar panels on KG roof
• Replace Light bulbs to T5
• Centralize Air Condition, auto shutoff implemented (new “green” chillers)
• Utilize the heat generated by the chillers to heat water
• Implement 2 separate controllers for Temp and RH
Indigo’s carbon footprint measurements
Carbon Neutrality
Offsetting Indigo presses production starting with S3 family
• A continuous effort to reduce GHG in the design and manufacturing phase
• S3 presses generate about 20 ton CO2/press (for reference, Heidelberg SpeedMaster 52 Anicolor produces 64 tons)
Offsetting options - “Good Energy Initiative” GEI is a social venture investing revenues in non-profit social/environmental activities. (Urban Tree planting, Solar water heaters for low-economy public housing, CFL's in schools and communities in the periphery)

The laying of the corner stone Jun ‘11
Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies intended to improve performance in metrics such as energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
