Covid-19 Observations
I still Can’t believe people’s instinct told them to grab toilet paper. They said that a mask and gloves were enough to go to the
grocery store. They Lied. Everybody else had clothes on. The dumbest thing I every purchased was a 2020 planner. I’m going to stay up on New Years Eve this year. Not to see the
new year but to make sure this one leaves. If I had of only known in March it would be my last time in a restaurant, I would have
ordered dessert! I never thought the comment “ I wouldn’t touch him/her with a 6 foot pole” would
become National Policy, but here we are. The buttons on my jeans have started social distancing. Keep in mind during a pandemic, no matter how much chocolate you eat, at least
your earrings will still fit. In the store there was a big X by the register for me to stand on... I’ve seen too many
road runner cartoons to fall for that one.
September? Fall? Seriously? It was just March? No? Despite the crazy that has become our new normal, most of us feel both stalled in place and fast forwarding at the same time and just like that, here we are, already staring down fall. Fingers crossed for an Indian Summer (are we still allowed to say that?) We hope to see our Activity Staff back soon, as restrictions hopefully continue to lift and things begin to look a little more “normal”. Thanks everyone for your ongoing encouragement! I am enjoying working with you all daily! Thanks to everyone for finding the new locations of our activities now that the Dining Room is once again the Dining Room! And an ongoing Thank you for understanding our need to use the current seating plan for everyone’s
dining location. We are accountable to Fraser Health and must have this in place for now. You will notice that we are able to remove the floor by floor restrictions to activities that are now located in the hangar as we have enough room to accommodate a large number of people while keeping physically distant. We are cautiously optimistic that things will slowly but surely continue to return to normal. Don’t we all miss normal?

BLOOD THINNERS
Blood thinners or anticoagulants are medicines that help blood flow smoothly through your veins and ar-teries. They also, decrease the blood volume, leading to “thinner” blood. They keep blood clots from forming
or getting bigger. Blood Thinners are used to treat some types of heart disease and heart defects, and other conditions that could raise your risk of getting dangerous clots which could stop the blood flow to the heart. There are many types of blood thinners, lower doses such as Aspirin, Lovenox, which is an injection, and Warfarin, which is most commonly used to combat thicker blood, to name a few. A Prothrombin time (PT) test is a blood test that measures how long it takes blood to clot. A prothrombin time test can be used to check for bleed-ing problems. PT is also used to check whether medicine to prevent blood clots is working. A PT test may also be called an INR test. The International Normalized Ratio (INR) is a standardized number that's figured out in the lab. If you take blood thinners, also called anti-clotting medicines or anticoagulants, it may be important to check your INR. The INR is found using the results of the prothrombin time (PT) test. For people taking Warfarin, most lab report PT results that have been adjusted to the INR. These people should have an INR of 2.0 to 3.0 for basic "blood-thinning" needs. For some who have a high risk of a blood clot, the INR needs to be higher - about 2.5 to 3.5.
It is important to maintain these therapeutic numbers. These numbers will also be a guideline on how often you will need your INR to be tested. It could be weekly if your numbers are not consistent or up to monthly if they are. If your GP is requesting an INR test please have him fax your requisi-tion to Mobile Labs at 604.939.4257. Drinking alcohol can also affect PT results. Certain foods, such as beef and pork liver, green tea, broccoli, chickpeas, kale, turnip greens, and soy-bean products, contain large amounts of vitamin K and can alter PT results. If you have any questions, please talk to us anytime! Dawn & Tara

]É|Ç há4 Parking Lot Party with Classic Rewind!
Note: The HP Parking Lot will be closed from 1:30 - 3:00pm
Join us on Thursday, September 10th at 2:00pm in our Harrison Pointe parking lot as we welcome the
talented duo, Classic Rewind!
Everyone living in suites that face south, simply come out on
your balcony and everyone else will be physically distant in spots all around the parking
lot as we enjoy an outdoor concert!
Physically distant Dancing Encouraged!
This talented duo, Dave Dorozio and Fernando Tome are happy to be entertaining again and look forward to visiting Harrison Pointe! And we are so glad to be welcoming them back! With Dave on guitar and Fernando on
keyboards, this duo is able to bring us the wonderful sounds of so many of your favourite artists.
Come and see Classic Rewind perform a variety of songs you know and love. They love it when they hear “when are you coming back?” and apparently that’s common place for them.
Did You Hear the One? One day an Englishman, an American, and a Canadian walked into a pub together. They proceeded to each buy a pint of Labatt Blue. Just as they were about to enjoy their beverages, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away from him in disgust. The American fished the offending fly out of his beer and continued drinking it as if nothing happened. The Canadian picked the fly out of his drink and started shaking it over the pint, yelling, “SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT YOU BAS-TARD!!!”

That’s Interesting
The Benefits of Laughter It’s true: laughter is strong medicine. Laughter strengthens your immune system, boosts mood, diminishes pain, and protects you from the damaging effects of stress. Humor
lightens your burdens, inspires hope, connects you to others, and keeps you grounded, focused, and alert. It also helps you release anger and forgive sooner. Our best advice is to tell/hear a joke, it’s good medicine!
Laughter is The Best Medicine
What Have You been Doing During the Pandemic? During this time of isolation, everyone has had to find ways to occupy their time and here is another wonderful way! Look at
the beautiful Art Collection made by the talented Diana Sendall! Adult Therapeutic Colouring is not only good for your soul, it’s beautiful too! Good Job Diana and keep up the good work! What a gorgeous gallery! We hope this encourages more of you to try this wonderful, therapeutic pastime!
Everyday Covid Check: At 5:00pm open a bottle of wine, smell it, taste it, then pour it in a glass. If you still have your sense of smell and taste, you are good! Cele-brate by finishing the bottle. You are welcome!
Coronacoaster noun: the ups and downs of a pandemic. One day you are loving your bubble, working out, baking banana bread and going for walks
and the next day you are crying, drink-ing gin for breakfast and missing people you don’t even like.
