A low latency high performance network

A HPC infrastructure demands a highly efficient network between the different computing servers of the cluster. This is to maximize bandwidth and decrease latency time in order to accelerate the data exchanges, which are usually large during calculation. At OVH.com, the servers dedicated to HPC are interconnected via a low latency 10 Gbps Ethernet network as standard, which can be substituted for a 40 Gbps Infiniband network for even more enhanced performances.

Expert support for HPC

For 10 years, the OVH Oxalya team has been installing and maintaining HPC clusters. This integration enables us to maintain contact with our customers and their business. We know HPC inside out and we know the issues.

The standard support system is included with all OVH.com HPC offers, however, you may need to go beyond this. Our HPC team thus also provides support for specific interventions (code or scientific library installations…), and can even go as far as providing facilities management for your dedicated cluster. What’s more, our teams can also provide bespoke services, such as application installations and code benchmarking.

Big data consists of running relatively simple operations on astronomical quantities of data. HPC is characterized by the complexity of the equations that the HPC clusters can be subjected to. The capabilities of a HPC cluster will thus be evaluated in teraflops (number of calculations per second), whereas the performance of a big data infrastructure will be measured in terabytes, or even petabytes of processed data.

Within minutes of placing your order, your high performance infrastructure is delivered. It can be used straightaway, as it’s pre-installed and configured to be immediately operational. The application and computing codes can be accessed directly via our graphical user interface HPC Drive. Result: you have nothing to install on your workstation. Do you create your own code? You can install it and compile it in your work environment. No matter where you are, or what time of day or night it is, you can launch calculations and access your data and applications from any workstation connected to the internet, without having to download all your results locally. So that you can work remotely using our tools, OVH.com has deployed its own global fiber optic network, with a 2.5 Tbps capacity, and 33 peering points spread across the world. We can thus guarantee uninterrupted access to the HPC tools, and fast submission and retrieval of your data, wherever you are. All connections are secured using HTTPS access. The HPC Drive technology developed by OVH.com uses the SSL protocol to guarantee maximum security.

Your data, safe and secure The data sets injected into your HPC infrastructure demand the highest level of confidentiality, as with the results produced. That’s why OVH.com hosts its HPC servers in the Gravelines datacenter in northern France, which was designed, and is secured and maintained by in-house teams. Access to this datacenter is reserved only for authorized OVH personnel, and protection of your data is guaranteed by French legislation.
