organization in a structured and thorough manner. This definition covers the

field of staffing, retention of people, pay and perks management, performance

Recruitment Meaning and Definition

Recruitment is the first stage in the process. Recruitment makes it possible to

acquire the number and type of people necessary to ensure the continued

operation of the organization. Recruitment also helps in promoting the

company into the minds of the public.

Recruitment is a process of searching for prospective employees and stimulating

them to apply for jobs.

Recruitment: Planning

The first stage in the recruitment process is planning. Planning involves the

translation of likely job vacancies and information about the nature of these jobs

into a set of objectives which help in identifying the correct type of applicants to

be recruited.

Recruitment: Screening

The purpose of screening is to remove from the recruitment process at an early

stage, those applicants who are visibly unqualified for the job. Effective

screening can save a great deal of time and money. Care must be exercised to

assure that potentially good employees are not lost.

Selection: Meaning and Definition

Selection has been regarded as the most important function of HR department. It

helps in differentiating between applicants in order to identify and hire those

with greater likelihood of success of job.

Selection can be defined as process of choosing the right person for the right job

from a pool of different candidates who applied for a certain job.

Selection: Selection Test

Different types of selection tests may be administered depending on the job and

the company. Generally tests are used to determine the applicants ability,

aptitude and personality.

Selection: Preliminary Interview

The purpose of this interview is to scrutinize the applicant and to eliminate

unqualified applications.

Selection: Employment Interview

It is an interview to determine whether an applicant is suitable for the position of

employment. It is mainly conducted by the department head wherein

interviewer scrutinizes to ascertain whether the candidate is the right person for

the job.

Selection: Reference & Background Check

Names, address, past employer and reference are requested to verify information

and gain additional background information of the candidates.

Selection: Selection Decision

Selection decision is the most critical of all steps in selection process. The final

decision has to be made from the pool of individuals who have passed the tests

and interviews.

Selection: Job Offer

Job offer is an offer wherein details regarding salary, terms of employment and

employment bond if any is described. The candidate is given some time to think

over the offer and to accept or reject it.

Selection: Letter of Appointment

Candidate who accepts the offer are given letter of appointment. The letter will

state the name of the job, salary and other benefits, number of medical leaves

and casual leave. It will also state the date on which the employee is required to

start duty in the company.

Induction

Induction is a technique by which a new employee is rehabilitated into his

surrounding and introduced to practices, policies and purpose of the

organization. Induction helps in settling smoothly of the new employee in the

job. It intimates them about the mission, aims and objectives of the

organization. It gives a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
