HR Executives today are under significant pressure to demonstrate their contribution to their organization’s strategic goals. Electrolux is one of the world’s leading international appliance companies operating in 55 countries with a global workforce of 55,000. Each year, some 40 million consumers in more than 150 countries choose Electrolux products. Electrolux global sales are in excess of SEK 105 billion. The Electrolux HR Executives (HRX) recognized the need to prioritize HR Value Transformation to address emerging priorities and deliver the people vision and strategy.

Birmingham City Council is the largest local Authority in Europe with a budget of £3 billion. It employs over 55,000 people and serves a population of 1 million citizens. In 2006 the council embarked upon a long-term, strategic business transformation programme, to revolutionize its business processes, offer superior service to its citizens, save large amounts of money, and to be in line with the e-Government strategic directives.

■ The Excellence in People Management (EIPM) project will save about £300 million by 2016■ Computer tracking has already enabled the council to reduce its requirements for hiring expensive agency staff by 23 percent,

equivalent to 764 jobs■ The HR function has been reduced by the equivalent of 80 jobs■ Self service functions have been implemented for all employees and over 4,000 managers.
