Technological Innovation to Create Value

• Recent history has shown how new technologies can have positive impact along the entire hydrocarbon value chain. In the 1990s, the application of highly innovative technologies made it possible to reduce exploration and development costs by 50-80% (depending on the geographic areas), to re-evaluate the proven reserves in the North Sea by more than 30%, to increase exploration success by 50-70% and to raise well productivity by more than 100%.

Page 22: HRM-Project on ENI

The Technological Challenges

• Eni is responding to the challenges and difficulties faced by the energy industry by developing innovative projects capable of identifying technology for supporting the competitiveness and growth of the market.

• In the upstream sector the most interesting areas concern improving access to oil and gas resources, in order to counteract the depletion of deposits and to expand into other areas, and sulphur management, for developing oil and gas fields with H2S levels that are even higher than 15%.

Page 23: HRM-Project on ENI
