SHAH ALAM (July 14, 2010): Thaipathology expert Dr Pornthip Rojanasunandwill be in Malaysia to testify at the TeohBeng Hock inquest on Aug 18.
The coroner's court set the date after theSelangor government withdrew anapplication for Pornthip, who had claimedshe had been pressured not to continuewith her testimony, to be allowed to give heropinion via video conference.
Teoh family lawyer Gobind Singh Deo saidthey had received a letter from her onTuesday indicating that she will be presentto testify in person at the inquest "afterreceiving permission from the Thai authorities".
Pornthip is the director of the Thai Central Institute of Forensic Science, which comes under the Thai Ministry of Justice.
This letter ends the long wait for Pornthip to take the stand to testify on herfindings after Teoh's body was exhumed on Nov 21 last year and subjectedto a second post mortem as a result of her earlier testimony.
She had been set to testify at the end of last year, but it had been repeatedlydelayed due to reported threats to her safety and political pressure.
Coroner Azmil Muntapha Abas was to have decided today on the applicationby the Selangor government to allow Pornthip to testify via video conference.
Pending her testimony, Azmil decided to call several other witnesses on July23, among them Kajang municipal councillor Tan Boon Wah and theinvestigating officer for the case, ASP Ahmad Nazri Zainal.
Teoh had been summoned to the Selangor branch of the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission(MACC) on the 14th floor of Plaza Masalam to bequestioned over irregularities in the disbursement of state funds on theevening of July 15. He was found dead on the fifth-floor landing the next day.
On Oct 21, Pornthip, who examined photos of the first post mortem, testifiedthat there was an 80% chance that Teoh was murdered. However, sheadded that she would need to go further for a more accurate determination, which led to the second post-mortem on Nov 22.
The post mortem was performed by pathologists Dr Shahidan Md Noor ofthe hospital, Dr K. Saravanan and Dr Khairul Azman Ibrahim, both of TengkuAmpuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang, and Dr Prashant Samberkar, of

Vanezis, in his testimony, said Teoh was conscious at the time of his fall andthere was no proof that he was strangled.
Azmil is also expected to decide as to whether to allow an application byMACC lawyer Datuk Abdul Razak Musa who had asked the court to granthis request to call an additional six witnesses.
Two of the witnesses are contractors who were being questioned at thesame time as Teoh on July 15 last year, while the other four were mentionedon invoices found on Teohs laptop which was seized by the MACC whenthey raided Ean Yong's offices on July 15. -- theSun
