Challenge

Facilities projects are sometimes delivered using joint venture or sub contractor methods andthe need for information exchange between different entities is common. Owners are not alwayssure of what they want in a BIM delivery and clear information requirements are not alwaysdefined. Customization inflates the cost of BIM implementation and can result in complexity. Inaddition design creates more information than is necessary for construction or operations.Without consistent use and validation of data, the situation quickly turns into informationoverload. Once the validity of information is questioned, the tendency is to ignore it. This projectdefines the minimum requirements, workflows, dependencies and checklist for successfulimplementation.

BIM turnover is becoming a critical deliverable to constructor, and the client. Projects will bemore successful if Construction has the right information and complete picture and directionsfrom which to plan and build. Standardization of deliverables improves repeatability andproductivity to meet design intent.
