3.2.4 Power Supply SubsystemThe power supply subsystem consists of the PSU, DPMU, and storage batteries. It performsthe following functions:
Converting the external power input into 48 V DC power. Providing 48 V DC power for the entire BTS3012AE. Charging and discharging the storage batteries.
Table 3-5 lists the boards of the power supply subsystem and their functions.
Table 3-5 Boards of the power supply subsystem and their functions
Board Function
DPMU Monitors the PSU, storage batteries, and the internal environment of thecabinet.
Inputs 6-route external Boolean values and outputs 2-route Boolean values.PSU Converts the external power into 48 V DC, and then supply the 48 V DC
power for each BTS3012AE module.
Storagebatteries
Supplies power for the BTS3012AE when the external power supply fails.
3.2.5 Monitoring SubsystemThe functions of the monitoring subsystem are as follows:
Managing and monitoring the internal environment of the cabinet, the power supplysystem, and the charging and discharging of the storage batteries. Reporting themonitoring results to the DTMU.
Collecting the environment parameters such as the temperature, humidity, smoke, andwater immersion sent from the sensors, and then reports the result to the DTMU. TheDTMU processes the reported results and then sends the results to the OMC.
Keeping the BTS3102AE in a proper temperature. The heat exchanger heats theBTS3012AE and the fans dissipate the heat for the BTS3012AE. When the temperatureexceeds the threshold, the system generates alarms.
3.3 System ConfigurationThe system configuration is as follows:
A single BTS3012AE cabinet under full configuration has a maximum of 12 TRXs, thatis, 6 DTRUs.
The BTS3012AE can form, with other types of BTSs, a combined cabinet or cabinetgroup of up to three cabinets.

6.1 System ReliabilityThe BTS3012AE is designed after overall analysis on system reliability. The BTS3012AEuses the following methods to enhance the system reliability:
Active/standby mode Load sharing Redundant configuration Optimized fault detection of boards and system Optimized fault isolation
Redundancy Design
The BTS3012AE uses the redundancy design. The key clock bus, control bus, data bus, andDTMU modules use the 1+1 backup mode. The transceivers mutual aid is also supported.
System Monitoring
The BTS3012AE can automatically detect and diagnose faults in the hardware or softwareand report them through alarms. It can also detect environmental status and reportabnormalities in time.
6.2 Hardware ReliabilityThe BTS3012AE adopts the following methods to enhance hardware reliability:
Prevention against Mistakenly Inserted Boards Redundancy Design of Fan Box Protection against Excessive Rise in Temperature of the DTRU Reliability Design for Power Supply
Prevention against Mistakenly Inserted Boards
When a functional board is inserted into a wrong slot, it cannot get into full contact with thebackplane. This prevents the equipment from being damaged.
Redundancy Design of Fan Box
The fan uses N+1 redundancy backup mode. If a fan is faulty, the other fans run at full speed.Under normal temperature, this design can meet the heat dissipation requirement.
Protection against Excessive Rise in Temperature of the DTRU
When the temperature around the last level power amplifier is too high, the power amplifierreports the excessive rise in temperature through an alarm, and then enters into the automaticprotection state.

Reliability Design for Power Supply
The power supply system of the BTS3012AE has the following features in terms of reliabilitydesign:
The power supply system has the power environment monitoring system, whichperforms the following functions:
Monitoring the power distribution of the AC/DC
Managing the charging and discharging of the storage batteries
Monitoring the cabinet environment
Monitoring the storage battery cabinet environment
Monitoring the extension cabinet environment
Monitoring the input and output of extended alarms When the external power supply fails, the internal storage batteries of the BTS3012AE
can supply power for several hours. An alarm about the failure of the external powersupply is sent to the OMC to prompt for proper handling.
The BTS3012AE uses a distributed power supply. The DC/DC power modules operate inN+1 redundancy mode. When a module fails, an alarm is sent to the OMC. You caneasily replace the faulty module because the DC/DC is hot swappable.
The power supply has a lightning protection function and a protection function againstvoltage variation.
The BTS3012AE provides power failure protection for programs and data. The boards of the BTS3012AE provide protection against excessive voltage and current. The boards of the BTS3012AE provide protection against reverse-polarity connection.
6.3 Software ReliabilitySoftware reliability is reflected in the powerful capability of error tolerance. The entire systemwill not get corrupted when the software fails. That is, the system has self-healing capability.Error tolerance of the BTS3012AE is shown in the following aspects.
Regular Check on Key Resources
Seizure check is conducted on various software resources in the system. The checkmechanism can ensure the release of suspended resources and the output of the related logsand alarms.
Task Monitoring
When the software is active, the task monitoring function can monitor any possible fault inthe software or hardware. In addition, detected faults can be reported. Task status and systemabnormalities can also be monitored.
Data Check
The system can perform regular or event-driven checks on data consistency, restore the dataconsistency selectively or preferably, and output related logs and alarms.
