Hubble Space Telescope
By Jessica and Blaire
What is the Hubble space telescope
• Launched in 1990 by NASA• Largest telescope in space• Seen the birth and death of stars • Seen galaxies that are billions of light years away
Purpose of the Hubble space telescope
• Shields us from harmful radiation allowing us to live• Its also turbulent and heavily distorts any image taken
though it• Screens may wave lengths of radiation that are useful in
astronomy
Contributors
Edwin Hubble NASA
What we already learned about the Hubble space telescope
• Examined over 25000 features in space distant galaxies, black holes and nebulas
• First pictures sent was much blurrier then expected• Hubble Deep Field is one of the most amazing areas
of research done be the Hubble telescope• Last servicing mission was in March 2002
Benefits of the Hubble telescope
• Take glorious pictures which cant be taken from inside Earths atmosphere
• Helps to establish a more accurate estimate on the age of our universe
• Learned how galaxies develop and grow
• Difficult to reach and repair • Going to crash into earths atmosphere after all repairs
are done •
Risks of the Hubble telescope
• No plans of the future • Replaced with James Webb telescope
Plans for the future
Plans for Improvement
• Hubble space telescope was a national embarrassment in 1993• No other improvements
