A Handful of Possible Change ConceptsChange Concept Example

Do things in parallel instead of sequentially

Start processing paperwork for veteran at the same time units are being identified

“Smooth” flow vs. batching

Process paperwork at the start of every day instead of all the paperwork on Tuesday

Rearrange the order Start with the process that takes the most time and then move to the shorter process (e.g., housing and then veterans)

Minimize movement and transportation

Email or fax instead of delivering by hand (or email or fax to start the process)

Reduce duplication Combine forms instead of using multiple forms

Combine steps Have the veteran complete multiple forms during one visit instead of coming in for a second visit
