Concept VI (long form) - On
behalf of A.A. as a whole, our
General Service Conference
has the principal responsibility
for the maintenance of our
world services, and it tradi-
tionally has the final decision
respecting large matters of
general policy and finance.
But the Conference also rec-
ognizes that the chief initiative
and the active responsibility in
most of these matters should
be exercised primarily by the
Trustee members of the
Conference when they act
among themselves as the
General Service Board of
Alcoholics Anonymous.
Tradition Six Checklist
1. Should my fellow group members and I go out and raise money to
endow several AA beds in our local hospital?
2. Is it good for a group to lease a small building?
3. Are all the officers and members of our local club for AAs familiar
with “Guidelines on Clubs” (which is available free from GSO)?
4. Should the secretary of our group serve on the mayor’s advisory
committee on alcoholism?
5. Some alcoholics will stay around AA only if we have a TV and card
room. If this is what is required to carry the message to them,
should we have these facilities?
Concept IV Checklist
1. Are we familiar with how our General Service Board (G.S.B.) Class
A and Class B trustees serve A.A.? Are we familiar with how our oth-
er trusted servants serve A.A.?
2. Are we clear about the terms, “chief initiative” and “active
responsibility”? Can we see a direct link to our home group?

Area 48 Delegates Report June 2018
Thank you to those who attended our Area 48 Spring Assembly! You all, our GSRs who attended and our Area Committee got a lot of work done in a short period of time. I know that for some this feels like a frustrating and seemingly pointless exercise. Please remember that the reason business in AA takes as long as it does is that we MAKE SURE all sides are heard, every opinion weighed. This process is flawed, I suspect by our humanness and perhaps we forget that God whispers even in a noisy room. I do believe that, in the end, the intent of a loving God was expressed through our informed group conscience. I need to amend my report back.....I should have had someone proof read for me the text AND the slides. I stated in my remarks that Grapevine subscriptions are up. This is not the case. What I was trying to say was that Grapevine was still in the BLACK. As the slide pertaining to Grapevine activity clearly shows - Sales are down. I apologize for my confusion. Grapevine June Report Hi everyone hopefully within the next month I’ll have teleconference set up for district grapevines. I set up display at spiritual breakfast in district 12. Area Chair Report June 2018
This past month, I’ve visited the Districts 3 & 14
business meetings – they have the typical struggles
that seem to be ongoing everywhere finding people
to fill positions but AA is alive and well in both
Districts. I will be scheduling a couple of more vis-
its in the near future. I find it interesting how the
different Districts run their meeting – I am so used
to my home District after many years and it’s re-
freshing to see how others do it.
Our first Assembly of the year was held in Glen-
ville on May 12th. There were Area reports, our
Delegate’s General Service Conference report (nice
job Don!), and four proposals for consideration by
the Assembly. I’ll be extending the time allotted for
the reports in the future so there is extra time for
questions – we’ve been rushing through in an at-
tempt to stay on schedule and we’ve been running
over. I’ve also asked all Area Committee members
to be prepared and keep their report to about three
minutes.
In the afternoon, we had a lively and passionate
discussion concerning guidelines and procedures.
Ultimately we heard all four proposals and voted
on them. The first two did not pass and the second
two were approved. I learned quickly that standing
in front of the room trying to remember and follow
proper procedure is very different than sitting in the
room listening and voting. I'd like to remind all that
might have been frustrated by the proceedings, that
despite initial disagreement on an issue, in the end
we did reach an agreement and the group con-
science was heard as it should be.
On another note, the person appointed to the Fi-
nance Committee to fill the past DCM position has
been unable to participate due to other demands,
and so I have appointed Deb D, who is a past DCM
from District 15 as well as a past Delegate to fill
the position. Having served many years on the Fi-
nance Committee, I feel strongly that it is important
that we have a fully participating committee look-
ing after our finances.
Next up is our Joy of Service Day in Hudson on
June 9th – hope to see you there!

Alternate Chair Report June 2018
It continues to be a pleasure to serve Area 48, the first half of this year has just flown by. Monthly conference calls with district DCM’s continue to be a highlight and give ample time for the trusted servants in their re-spective districts to exchange information, ask ques-tions and offer support to one another.
The May Assembly was a great success. A hearty thanks to District 4, 8 & 14 for hosting. The upcoming Joy of Service Day in the Hudson Valley is coming to-gether and looks like it will be an event not to miss. The flyer provides a sneak peek at the agenda.
If you have not yet registered for the NYS Information-al Workshop I encourage you to do so soon. The rooms are filling up quickly.

Technology committee We moved the hosting of our main site, aahmbny.org from GoDaddy to SiteGround back in February. We’ll be ending our domain hosting with GoDaddy when it expires next year. That part is very techy, don’t worry. The message that I do need to get out is that District Websites that are hosted on the hmb site will need to be moved by the end of the year and I need to talk with each district web chair about the move. Otherwise, those sites may go down. Districts: PLEASE have your webchair get in contact with me if they haven't already. If you don't have a district website or if you pay for your own hosting, there's nothing they need to do.
1. The tech committee is currently meeting 1st and 3rd Tuesdays by video chat. We’ll probably go to Monthly or less once we get a handle on everything. Our meetings are tech heavy, but if you'd like to join the committee and help with the weekly maintenance work or one of the bigger projects, we'd love to have you. Just email!
2. We’re planning to update the website, specifically with a “Find Help” button as well as more intuitive way to find the meeting finder and other information relevant to newcomers. In general, you can expect the website to get a facelift by the end of 2018.
3. SEO, or Search Engine Optimization is also on the agenda for us to work on this year.
4. We’ll be switching up the meeting finder fairly soon. The current version is pretty great, but when it breaks, we don't have anyone who can help us fix it (calling all Pheonix/Elixir developers?), so it's unsustainable in the long run. We have put it out to everyone we know and haven’t found anyone. We are going to switch to some-thing that can easily be maintained by webmasters with moderate levels of knowledge. We'll retain most of the same functionality as our current meeting finder. It's a work in progress. But rest assured the information on the meeting finder continues to be regularly updated by the records keeper and is accurate. Records Keeper June Report - The proposal to start using the Plus plan of the Airtable online database for all area records was passed (at $5/user/month for 20 users = $1200/year). - I'm working with the District 1 Records Keeper (Kelly S) to pilot some new processes we're hoping to implement in each district to help get all of our data up to date, - One method has been to send emails and text messages to all district officers and GSRs from our records asking for the most up-to-date information they can provide us. - Also at District 1 we are planning on starting a data collection team that will be responsible for visiting meetings in person to get updates from the groups. - And I am creating a new District Sign-In Sheet template that can be used with our Airtable data to be used at all District Business meetings to confirm or update information. - A confidential directory of all our current data was sent out to all area officers and DCMs. - I'm going to be creating a template for generating District specific meeting lists at some point in the future. - There's a plan to switch Meeting Finders to a free Wordpress app called Meeting Guide that we will integrate with the data we have in Airtable. - Please email me at [email protected] if you have any updates, questions or concerns. S., Dr. Bob's wife, died. June 5:!
1940 - Ebby T. took a job at the NY Worlds Fair. June 6:
1940 - The first AA Group in Richmond, VA, was formed.
1979 - AA gave the two-millionth copy of the Big Book to
Joseph Califano, then the 12th United States Secretary of
Health, Education, and Welfare under President Jimmy
Carter, who later fired him. It was presented by Lois W., in
New York.
June 7:
1939 - Bill and Lois W. had an argument, the first of
two times Bill almost slipped.
1941 - The first AA Group in St. Paul, Minnesota, was formed. June 10:
1935 - The date that is celebrated as Dr. Bob's last drink and
the official founding date of AA. There is some evi-
dence that the founders, in trying to reconstruct the history,
got the date wrong and it was actually June 17.
June 11:
1945 - Twenty-five hundred attend AA's 10th Anniversary in
Cleveland, Ohio.
1969 - Dr. Bob's granddaughter, Bonna, daughter of Sue
Smith and Ernie G. (‘The Seven Month Slip’ in the First Edi-
tion) shot and killed herself with Ernie’s shotgun after first
killing her six-year-old daughter.
1971 - Ernie G. died. Ernie’s story was removed from the Big
Book with the Second Edition as his recovery was always
shaky and he relapsed into active, progressive drinking. June 13:
1945 - Morgan R. gave a radio appearance for AA with a large
audience. He was kept under surveillance to make sure he
didn't drink. June 15:
1940 - First AA Group in Baltimore, MD, was formed.
1942 - New York AA groups sponsored the first annual NY
area meeting. 424 heard Dr. Silkworth and AA speakers.
June 18:
1940 - One hundred attended the first meeting in the first
AA clubhouse at 334-1/2 West 24th St., New York
City. June 19:
1942 - Columnist Earl Wilson reported that NYC Police
Chief Valentine sent six policemen to AA and they sobered
up. "There are fewer suicides in my files," he commented.
June 21:
1944 - The first Issue of the AA Grapevine was pub-
lished. June 24:
1938 - Two Rockefeller associates told the press about the
Big Book "Not to bear any author's namebut to be by
'Alcoholics Anonymous.’” June 25:
1939 - The New York Times reviewer wrote that the Big
Book is "more soundly based psychologically than any
other treatment I have ever come upon.” June 26:
1935 - Bill D. (AA #3) entered Akron's City Hospital for his
last detox and his first day of sobriety. June 28:
1935 - Dr. Bob and Bill W. visited Bill Dotson at Akron's
City Hospital. June 30:
1941 - Ruth Hock showed Bill W. the Serenity Prayer and it
was adopted readily by AA.
2000 - More than 47,000 from 87 countries attended the
opening meeting of the 65th AA Anniversary in Minneap-
olis, MN. Dr. Bob and Bill W. visited Bill Dotson at Akron's
City Hospital
Other significant events in June for which we have
no specific date: 1948 - A subscrip-
tion to the AA Grapevine was donated to the Beloit, Wis-
consin, Public Library by a local AA member.
