Get Plugged Into the World The world is increasingly interconnected. Communications, commerce, and technology—all serve to bring the world closer together. At Hult, we have designed an undergraduate program to help students thrive in the international arena and be active participants in the global market. Hult International Business School, one of the most distinctive small institutions of higher education in the world, has campuses in London, Boston, San Francisco, Dubai, and Shanghai. Since 1964 we have been dedicated to breaking down barriers of geography, language, and culture.

Business and Beyond Recognized as one of the top American business programs (our business school is ranked in the top 25 in the U.S. and top 50 in the world by The Economist), Hult specializes in educating future leaders who can contribute meaningfully to their business and community. Our mission is to provide a useful and enduring education for undergraduate and graduate students with a curriculum that encompasses an international perspective. We encourage students to explore their interests and pursue learning without boundaries while graduating with an accredited U.S. degree.

Your Future Awaits Our graduates have gone forth in the world to become actively engaged in a wide range of fields from business to government to media to public service. Your school years will pass by quickly, and we encourage you to explore, wonder, and challenge yourself. I look forward to personally welcoming you to Hult.

Hult International Business School is the world’s only global business school.

2005 Hult’s one-year MBA program earns the accreditation of the Association of MBAs (AMBA), making Hult the first business school in the U.S. to be recognized by this prestigious international accrediting body.

2003 The school is renamed the Hult International Business School, honoring benefactor Bertil Hult’s personal vision and commitment to educating international business leaders. The school moves to its own dedicated facility near downtown Boston.

2008 Hult welcomes the first class of students to the MBA program in Dubai. Hult is the first U.S. academic institution to be licensed in the U.A.E.

2009 Hult’s London campus welcomes undergraduates and graduates. Our MBA students can choose to study in one of four locations: London, Boston, Dubai, or Shanghai.

1965 Swedish entrepreneur Bertil Hult founds EF Education First, today the world’s largest privately held education organization, with 31,000 teachers and staff, and offices in more than 50 countries.

1964 Arthur D. Little Inc., the world’s oldest management consulting firm, establishes the Management Education Institute. Modeled after top business programs, the school attracts some of the world’s most successful business leaders.

1976 The business school is officially accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), the governing accreditation body of the top schools and universities in the northeastern U.S.

1998 Forbes identifies Hult's Action Learning Program as “highly distinctive”, ranking it with those of the top five MBA programs in the U.S.

2002 The Economist Intelligence Unit ranks the school the third best business school in Massachusetts, after Harvard Business School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Present The business school expands its portfolio of Master degrees and opens its fifth campus in San Francisco, U.S.

Launch your undergraduate life in London at Hult’s home campus. Hult London could not be in a more central or historic location—culture, fashion, history, and art all lie at your doorstep.

Start Your Studies in London, One of the Best Places to Live and Learn

The “Knowledge Capital of the World”

Hult looks out over one of London’s largest and most beautiful gardens—Russell Square—in Bloomsbury, the academic and literary heart of London. Scholars and writers, poets and patrons, have long fl ocked to Bloomsbury for its vibrancy and seats of learning. Home to the largest concentration of universities and gardened squares in London, Bloomsbury hosts some of the world’s most extensive libraries and academic facilities, such as the British Library, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, the British Museum, and University College London. As the home to treasures accumulated over centuries, London offers nothing less than the achievements and artifacts of human civilization.

A thoroughly modern campus

Behind Hult’s historic Georgian exterior lies a completely contemporary interior. Renovated by the renowned architectural fi rm Seville Peach (which also designed Microsoft’s European headquarters), Hult’s facilities offer modern technology and amenities, as well as a spacious new student lounge, speaker’s hall, and outdoor patio. Classes are held at Birkbeck, University of London, which features state-of-the-art facilities, library resources, and a sprawling campus square.

Central London—thousands of things to do within minutes of your doorstep

Hult’s campus is just a few short minutes’ walk from Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street—trendy thoroughfares fi lled with boutiques, restaurants, cinemas, theatres, and bookstores. A little further afi eld, you will fi nd the green of Regent’s Park and the endless amusements of Covent Garden, Piccadilly Circus, Soho, and Chinatown. Everything is readily accessible by foot or tube. And, you are within walking distance of St Pancras station and the Eurostar.

The world’s most infl uential city

London is the most infl uential commercial city in the world, according to a recent study commissioned by MasterCard. A strong economy, vibrant fi nancial markets, and astute government policies earned London the top spot in the Centers of Commerce Index in 2008. The fact that one-fi fth of Europe’s largest companies are based in London makes this city an ideal launch pad for your studies. With fi ve airports (and just as many premier league football teams), London is a crossroads for the world.

Live and learn in one of the world’s most vibrant cities.

A world of culture, history, and art is at your doorstep.

The British Museum, a fi ve-minute walk from Russell Square, houses one of the world’s largest collections of international treasures.

A unique opportunity to live and study in the world’s most infl uential cities

Hult’s Global Rotation gives you the chance to participate in Action Projects on any of our fi ve campuses. This provides Hult students with a unique opportunity to experience fi rsthand the emerging markets of the Middle East or China, develop a broad network of contacts across multiple continents, and work with Hult’s graduate students to solve real business cases. During your third and fourth years, you can decide where you would like to participate on an Action Project. Choose to stay on your home campus for the full year, or spend six to seven weeks on a different Hult campus. A truly life-changing experience that only Hult can deliver.

Seamless experience, from Hult to Hult

Our Global Campus Rotation is fully integrated into our curriculum. In contrast to most business schools that offer their students study-abroad opportunities through exchange programs with other schools, Hult prides itself on being the full provider of the Global Campus Rotation. This means that no matter which Hult campus you are on, you will use the same electronic library, the same Course Management System, and have access to the same Career Services and Student Services support. Our global campus network ensures that your undergraduate experience is uninterrupted and hassle-free.

Bringing the study of international business to life

International business cannot be learned solely in the classroom. Nothing can replace the experience of really getting an on-the-ground understanding of what is happening in different parts of the world. On an Action Project, you will be attached to a small team of Hult graduate students performing a high-level project for an actual company or business. Action Projects can be done at our home campus in London, or abroad in Boston, San Francisco, Dubai, or Shanghai.

Expand your international network

Mingle with classmates from other campuses during your Global Rotation. Build valuable contacts as you study alongside new faces and learn from different faculty on our global campuses. The Career Services and Student Services teams on each campus will do their best to ensure that you have many opportunities to network with your peers and industry professionals alike. No other school offers such an opportunity to graduate with a valuable network of friends and contacts all over the world.

Details about the Global Campus Rotation:

• Global Campus Rotation takes place during the summer months of Year Three and Year Four. Participation in the Action Projects is mandatory; rotation to a different campus is optional.

• Global Campus Rotation option is included in your tuition but a deposit is required. Airfare, visas, and accommodation are not included in the tuition.

• Student Services helps with resources for travel, visas, and accommodation arrangements during your Rotation.

• In order to participate in the Rotation, you must be in good academic standing (GPA of 2.67 or above).

• Global Campus Rotation is subject to each campus’s capacity. If demand exceeds capacity, a lottery will be used to ascertain attendance.

Hult’s Global Campus Rotation

An international perspective is crucial to understanding today’s business issues. You can study and live on any of our campuses in Boston, San Francisco, London, Dubai, and Shanghai during your Action Project.

Hult San Francisco

Study in the heart of San Francisco

Hult’s campus is located on the San Francisco waterfront at the foot of Telegraph Hill, opposite the world-famous retailer Levi Strauss & Co. The campus, the former headquarters of a dot-com company, is modern and spacious. The entire city of San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area are easily accessible. The campus is walking distance from the fi nancial district and Fisherman’s Wharf, affording students easy access to public transport and the city’s many cultural institutions and charming retail boutiques.

The West Coast’s business capital

As the West Coast’s center for banking, information technology, venture capital, healthcare, retail, and biotechnology, San Francisco is a magnet for talent. Catch executive speakers on campus from companies like Apple, Hewlett-Packard, and Intel. Take advantage of Hult’s close proximity to the headquarters of many of America’s leading corporations such as Wells Fargo, Gap, Charles Schwab, and VISA, to learn about how business works in the U.S.

A vibrant campus life in a dynamic city

Take advantage of the wide range of cultural and social activities organized by Student Services to make the most of your time in the Bay Area. San Francisco affords a wide range of networking and leisure opportunities. Explore museums, nightlife, and art within each neighborhood, or venture right outside the city limits for magnifi cent coastlines and sprawling vineyards. San Francisco’s lively cultural scene, combined with its devotion to sustainability and innovation, make it the perfect destination to learn and live.

A city rich in American culture

San Francisco is well known for its diverse, inventive, creative culture. During your studies, you can enjoy the city’s Little Italy in North Beach, admire the architecture in Pacifi c Heights, or stroll down Chinatown’s crowded streets. Indulge in authentic Mexican enchiladas in Mission, or meander the streets of Haight-Ashbury, the birthplace of 1960s fl ower power and counterculture. Take a ride on a historic cable car to the top of Nob Hill and down to Fisherman’s Wharf, where you can enjoy theatrical performances and fresh seafood. A haven for art and music lovers, San Francisco is home to Davies Symphony Hall, the Opera House, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Asian Art Museum.

Steeped in history and charm, Boston is home to some of the world’s most renowned universities. Considered one of America’s best student towns, Boston is an ideal place to live and study. Our campus has stunning views of downtown and the Charles River.

Hult Boston

America’s top student city

Boston is home to over 70 universities and colleges and is one of the most attractive, historic, and academic cities in the U.S. Hult International Business School is within three miles of downtown Boston, Harvard Business School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), historic landmarks, museums, and several of the world’s leading healthcare, technology, consulting, insurance, and fi nancial services companies.

Gorgeous views and excellent location

Set on the banks of the Charles River with views of downtown Boston from your classroom, Hult Boston is in a prime location, located directly opposite the Museum of Science. Within walking distance from historic Beacon Hill, the heart of Massachusetts government, and a short walk from “the North End”, the city’s own Little Italy, our campus was designed by renowned Swedish architect Thomas Sandell. This internationally-acclaimed building has excellent facilities, including amphitheater-style classrooms, a fully equipped computer center, video-conferencing, student break-out rooms, lounges, and Lingo, an on-site restaurant and outdoor patio. All of our classrooms, meeting rooms, and lounges, as well as our restaurant have wireless Internet access. You will also fi nd giant monitors broadcasting live feeds of HultTV throughout the campus.

Tons of fun things to do in Boston

You will be welcomed into Hult’s student community with plenty of events and campus activities. Boston is great for exploring—take a stroll through Boston Common, the oldest park

in the country; hop on a swan boat at the Public Garden; explore the John F. Kennedy library; enjoy a great meal at one of the many restaurants that make up Boston’s “foodie” culture. Our campus is just a short walk away from the three-mile park that runs along the Charles River, the Esplanade—home to Boston’s 4th of July fi reworks celebration, free summer concerts, playgrounds, tennis courts, soccer fi elds, and beautiful paths for walking, biking, or running.

Explore the East Coast

As the leading city in New England, Boston also offers a fantastic base from which to explore the northeastern United States. New York City is a four-hour drive from Boston, and Washington D.C. is an easy commute by plane or train. The region is remarkably compact. Take a weekend to view the autumn foliage in New Hampshire, ski the slopes of Vermont, visit the charming islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, explore the majestic national parks of Maine, or experience the vibrant cityscape of Manhattan.

Extracurriculars at Hult

Join or start your own student club according to your hobbies and interests. Hult’s London location offers the perfect opportunity for students to explore the many cultures in Europe and beyond. The campus is located within walking distance of King’s Cross and St Pancras stations, which provide access to Europe via the Eurostar and rail travel to a large variety of destinations in the U.K. Student Services encourages students to take advantage of the many travel opportunities available to them, and assists in planning group trips to a range of exciting locations, including Dublin and Paris.

New student Orientation

An Orientation for all new Hult students is conducted at the beginning of the Fall and Spring terms. Along with advising, welcome events, and registration for the term’s classes, this induction includes: introductions to faculty, staff, and administration; a tour of the campus and surrounding community; an introduction to advisory services such as tutorial help or English language support; a “shopping” period for students to sample classes and professors before they register; and community-building activities.

Hult Student Services

Based at our Russell Square campus, the Student Services team aims to ensure that all areas of student life are supported, including: accommodations, residence life, travel, health, counseling, orientation, graduation, student clubs, and activities.

Campus social life

At Hult, we understand the importance of integrating students into university life and into the city of London. That is why Student Services, together with the Hult Student Association, coordinates a range of cultural and social activities each semester. These include international evenings, volunteer opportunities, sporting competitions, social events, movie nights, and excursions in and out of London. The campus provides a welcoming environment where students are encouraged to live and learn from each other in an internationally diverse setting.

Helping You Every Step of the Way

Moving away from home to enter a new school in a different country is a very important moment in life. At Hult, we recognize this and have set up processes to support both students and parents during this signifi cant transition.

From the moment you apply, we are at your service

Even before you arrive at our school, we pay special attention from the moment you apply. During your fi rst discussion with one of our admissions offi cers, we assess your academic interests, and depending on your needs, put you in touch with professors, current students, Career Services or Student Services to make sure you feel comfortable from day one. For transfer students, we facilitate transfering your academic credit to our bachelor degree program.

A close-knit community

Because our student body is predominantly international, we specialize in making sure that our foreign students do not feel “foreign”. We like to say we specialize in “international”—anything and everything, from helping with travel arrangements to recommending the best place to get dim sum. Our school is small enough that Hult teachers and staff know your name.

Extensive Orientation

The fi rst two weeks of Hult’s entering freshmen class are spent in an extensive Orientation. Hult’s “Freshers Week”, held the fi rst week of Orientation, enables you to meet and bond with your fellow fi rst-year classmates and participate in team-building activities designed to help you acclimate to life in London and at Hult. During the second week, you’ll go through “Shopping Period” to choose your courses. Sit in on classes, listen to lectures, and decide what courses you want to take afterwards.

Security is a high priority

Ranked one of the most desirable places to live, London still is a cosmopolitan city with the same advantages and disadvantages of any major metropolis. We take our students’ safety very seriously, and our Russell Square campus has been equipped with ID access codes and security cameras. We require each student to have insurance and offer tailor-made Hult student insurance packages by Erika Insurance (see p. 60 for more information).

“When Emily chose to study at Hult in London, we initially had mixed feelings. We wondered how she would manage living away from home for months at a time and in such a huge (and expensive) city. How would she fi nd affordable accommodation and who would help and advise her? We needn’t have worried. With the assistance of the university housing department, Emily secured a place in student accommodation within a stone’s throw of the university campus, avoiding the need for additional travel and the associated costs and time.”

Susan Channon, Parent of Emily Channon, Bachelor of Science in Business, Class of 2012

Orientation for all incoming fi rst year students is a great way to settle in.

Make friendships that last for a lifetime.

Graduate with good marks and great memories.

Hult spares no expense to ensure you enjoy a comfortable home away from home.

Learn from faculty who possess real-world business experience.

Putting theory into action

The major complaint from employers regarding business school graduates is their inability to put the theory they have learned in the classroom into practice. This complaint is unsurprising when you consider that most business schools don’t offer their students the opportunity to practice the techniques they have learned before they graduate. This is counterintuitive, since everyone instinctively understands that you only learn by doing.

Hult International Business School, born from the world’s fi rst management-consulting fi rm Arthur D. Little over 40 years ago, has always had a different take on standard business education practices. The school pioneered the concept of “Action Learning” and over the years we have methodically improved this approach to where it is today—something we call the Hult LEAP Method: Learn, Experience, Action Project.

Based on our top-ranked MBA curriculum

The same team of academics and curriculum advisors involved with structuring Hult’s top-ranked MBA curriculum has carefully designed our undergraduate curriculum. The result is one of the most innovative Bachelor programs in the world. Hult faculty extensively employs the case study methodology, experiential learning, and simulations to help students understand academic theory in the context of real-world business practices. The LEAP Method ensures that students on all our tracks have the opportunity to apply theory learned in the classroom to real-world business problems and present their results to real executives. No other business school in the world offers such an opportunity.

Hult’s LEAP Method

The Hult LEAP Method is a hands-on approach to education that is a unique combination of classroom learning, real-world knowledge gleaned from visiting experts, and high-level exposure to the true world of business through participation in Action Projects.

Study and work alongside Hult graduate students

Our LEAP Method employs an innovative curriculum that has been achieved by aligning the undergraduate and MBA schedules so that undergraduate students can work with our graduate students on Action Projects for Fortune 500 companies. Previous Action Project clients have included Duracell, Pfi zer, Verizon, IBM, EMC, Phillips, Xerox, the Financial Times, and Osram Sylvania. As a result, our undergraduate students gain exposure that would not be possible on a normal bachelor degree program. It also gives our graduate students the opportunity to hone their leadership skills; a win-win for both.

Gain valuable international experience

Our undergraduate students may rotate to our other campuses in Boston, Dubai, Shanghai, and San Francisco to work on their Action Projects. This campus rotation lasts around six to seven weeks and can be taken up to twice during the program. Unlike traditional semester abroad programs, Hult’s campus rotation gives students the unique opportunity to gain valuable international experience with leading companies. We fi rmly believe that Hult students should understand what the world is about, and there is no better way to do this than experiencing it fi rsthand.

What Is LEAP and how does it work?

We believe that our curriculum is better than any other business school’s when it comes to training students in the realities of international business. Such a program is very difficult to execute, requiring a new level of integration between traditional faculty, Career Services, and corporate executives. Hult has developed this program by carefully refining the action-learning component based on the feedback of both participating companies and students. We break down our curriculum into three distinct stages:

LEARN

Students start by learning theory and business fundamentals in the classroom.

Professors encourage thought-provoking debates, giving students the chance to benefit from the wealth of experience and perspectives that diverse classmates bring. However, unlike at other top business schools, the learning doesn’t stop here.

EXPERIENCE

Through discussions with industry experts and company visits, the practical

realities of executing the classroom theory are brought to life. Meaningful dialogue with active business leaders helps students appreciate how real-world executives make decisions in a fast-paced, competitive environment with imperfect information. Hear a senior executive from the Real Madrid Football Club, for example, explain the economics of running one of the world’s largest sports franchises; discuss maintaining innovation in a corporate environment with Apple’s founder.

ACTION PROJECTS

Participate in a real-world project for a major company. With a small team of

MBA students and a faculty advisor, compete against other teams to develop a growth plan for a Fortune 500 company. Over a period of six weeks, each team will work with the company to develop an idea and business case. Recommendations are presented to the senior leadership of that company (typically a C-level executive, often including board members). Your two Action Projects can take place on any one of our five global campuses.

Hult’s Curriculum

Our curriculum is structured to give you a strong foundation in international business. Project work reinforces practical skills and the real-life application of classroom learning.

Earning credits towards a degree

The credit, sometimes called the credit hour or the semester hour, is the basic unit of value for coursework, equivalent to one hour per week over 14 weeks. A Bachelor degree requires at least 120 credit hours of successful study. While 30 credits per year is the expected minimum for full-time study, Hult’s fl exible academic structure allows you to take extra summer classes and up to 40 credits per year, enabling you to graduate with a full 120-credit Bachelor degree in three years rather than the usual four years.

Hult degree structure Hult’s undergraduate program has four essential components: Core courses, Elective courses, a Major, and an Action Project.

Core courses in General Education and Business Fundamentals Hult’s set of General Education courses are designed to provide all Hult students, regardless of their chosen major, with the core competencies and transferable skills needed to succeed in a professional environment. Business Fundamentals courses focus on a general understanding of the functional areas that a business student must appreciate: Finance & Accounting, Marketing, Management, and Business Ethics. In short, General Education and Business Fundamentals courses open up a world of knowledge to Hult undergraduates.

Major Courses Students declare a major, which is the advanced track of courses that they choose to study in-depth. Hult offers majors in either Marketing, Finance, Management, General Business, or Social Entrepreneurship. Students must declare their major by their third year.

Elective Courses Students may choose from a wide range of credit-bearing courses that are not part of the core requirements.

Action Projects Hult is committed to experiential learning. Project work is integrated into our undergraduate curriculum. Starting in your fi rst and second years, you will participate in an Action Project where you take your classroom learning and translate it into an actionable project. During your third year, your Action Project will be as part of a team of Hult graduate students on a global Hult campus or in London, and will help solve a real business case. For your fourth and fi nal year, you will undertake an Action Project related to your major or area of interest, as the culmination of your undergraduate studies.

Certifi cates (optional) Students earn Analyst Certificates during the summer, which count as a general elective worth 3 academic credits. To Students may choose to certify their knowledge in Innovation, Sustainability, Consulting, and Investing.

Hult’s curriculum gives you the fl exilibity to pursue your interests in international business.Gain the confi dence and skills you need to succeed in international business.

Core Courses

Develop the confi dence, skills, and knowledge needed to succeed

General Education courses provide students with an intellectual framework and a tool kit for advanced courses within the undergraduate program. Courses are designed to generate skills in critical thinking, and to encourage the development of good research techniques and study habits. As a result, students develop an awareness of the diversity of human thought, cultures, and belief systems, empowering them to place economic and social debates into an ethical framework.

Two paths of knowledge

The General Education curriculum is based on a well-rounded course of study that will place more advanced business courses in global context. The elements of Hult’s General Education are consistent with its mission to produce future leaders who are capable of driving their companies and organizations into the diverse international business environment of the 21st century.

General Education

General Education provides an unrivaled breadth of interdisciplinary knowledge. General Education at Hult is designed to provide the core competencies and transferable skills necessary to succeed in a contemporary professional environment.

Core Courses

General Education

General Education at Hult is designed to showcase two essential ingredients of the school’s pedagogy and mission: that all Hult graduates should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and that all Hult graduates should have an acute awareness of the international dimension, global trends, and cultural diversity.

Business Fundamentals

Core courses in Business Fundamentals are designed so that all Hult students graduate with a strong foundation in the basics of business.

Communication Competencies

Students undertake a series of classes, seminars, and workshops during Year One and Year Two, in which they develop their written, verbal, analytical, and team-building skills. Subjects include presentation skills, business writing, and teamwork.

Global Knowledge

General Education also covers a series of courses that provides knowledge of the wider international context of the modern world. Students may choose courses within the key academic disciplines of Social Science, Arts & Humanities, Science & Technology, and History. Students must also take an elementary course in a non-native foreign language and may choose further language advancement within their electives. Business Fundamentals

The Business Fundamentals curriculum focuses on a general understanding of the functional areas that a business student must appreciate: Information Technology, Finance & Accounting, Marketing, Management, and Business Ethics. Knowledge and appreciation of these functions is placed in the context of the increasingly complex environment in which businesses operate, with a strong emphasis on global strategies for international markets.

By exposing students to the full range of sub-disciplines, Business Fundamentals creates a platform for the declaration of a major at the end of Year Two, and for informed choice of advanced courses and projects in Years Three and Four.

Business leaders must be literate in all business disciplines, and the Fundamentals curriculum provides this essential layer of knowledge. The emphasis throughout is on international business and preparing students for a global business environment.

Business Fundamentals

Beginning in the fi rst and second years of their undergraduate studies, in addition to their General Education courses, all Hult students take a series of core business classes, providing a foundation for their Bachelor degree and subsequent choice of major.

MBA-style teaching

In the Business Fundamentals core, we employ a hands-on learning style that gives students the opportunity to examine interesting, real-world challenges and issues faced by companies and executives. Learning to work toward consensus while tolerating legitimate differences of opinion is a valuable business skill; as you discuss cases with your classmates, you will learn that decision-making is a confrontational activity involving people with multiple points of view.

Unparalleled exposure

In Year One and Year Two, Hult undergraduates are exposed to three key elements: Business Fundamentals, Communications Competencies, and Global Knowledge. Collectively, these courses provide Hult undergraduates with unparalleled exposure to both “hard” skills and “soft” skills, as well as a wider international perspective, equipping them to succeed in their chosen major and subsequent professional life.

Topics include:

• Global Management

• Marketing

• Accounting for Managers

• Quantitative Analysis

• Financial Management

• Career Management

Major in Marketing

Gain marketing experience

Marketing experts may specialize in research, planning, branding, entrepreneurship, or management. They may work for corporations or in the non-profi t sector, from selling cars for a major multinational to running public relations for a political campaign. But the best marketing experts, on top of their business fundamentals, also have to know a lot about psychology, and a lot about the art of communicating. Increasingly, marketing professionals must master digital developments (social media and internet optimization, for example) in order to remain at the top of a dynamic environment. Marketing and PR experts shape public perception about products, people, and organizations. They need to have a thorough knowledge of media outlets, both local and global, and an expert understanding of how to harness the power of print, broadcast, and internet forms of communication.

Learn what marketing means

Marketing resides fi rmly at the core of commercial productivity and competitive business. It is driven by the basic belief that customers, before products or services, are the means to profi t. To succeed in the marketplace, a company must not only identify and respond to customer needs, but also ensure that its response is seen as superior to that of its competitors. Furthermore, the digital world, in which consumers are no longer a passive audience, but rather active participants,

brings forth a huge array of addressable media channels that blur the lines between marketers and the end users. Within the contemporary digital environment the rules of the game have changed, and a new generation of graduates has the potential to drive companies forward by tapping into a set of digital marketing techniques that others are slow to adopt.

Learning objectives

• Knowledge of current trends in strategic marketing and an understanding of the contribution of marketing to effective corporate management and strategy

• Critical appraisal of the different types of marketing vehicles

• An ability to apply marketing concepts to frame and solve business problems

• Critical evaluation of the imperatives for effective marketing in the 21st century digital environment

• Ability to present marketing plans to an audience

Career opportunities

Graduates will develop careers in advertising, product development, brand management, design, copywriting, research and planning, client services, public relations, media companies, and promotions.

Marketing professionals have become vital not just to organizations, but to society as a whole. A major in marketing prepares you to communicate to the world.

Core courses cover the following key topics:

• Consumer Behavior

• New Product Development

• Pricing

• Advertising & Public Relations

• Marketing Channels

• Action Project in Marketing

Additional elective options might include:

• PR Campaigns

• Product Design

• Digital Marketing

• Marketing Research

Major in Finance

Learn about value creation and ethics

Finance is all about creating value for stakeholders. In competitive global markets, creating value is important for international businesses. This is what makes the major in Finance both challenging and enjoyable, and why a degree in Finance can lead to a career that is satisfying and lucrative. Responsible fi nancial managers with an understanding of the international fi nancial environment are needed more than ever before. The Hult major in Finance focuses on providing students with an action-orientation that will make them responsible managers who understand international fi nancial markets and who can act in them.

Gain fi nancial skills for the future

Hult’s LEAP Method will equip students with the understanding and the tools to operate effectively and effi ciently in fi nancial departments and markets. The acquisition and allocation of funds for public and private companies in domestic and international environments is part of this. The Hult Finance major prepares students for a career in fi nancial institutions and fi nancial departments of international companies. With the on-going changes in the fi nancial sector there are new opportunities for responsible managers with know-how of international fi nancial instruments and markets. Job prospects in fi nance look very promising for the next decade; there have been many advances in modern fi nancial theory and practice which make this an exciting fi eld to study.

Some topics covered in this major are:

Corporate Finance, Financial Management, Money and Banking, Global Institutions and Financial Regulations, Investment Strategies, International Finance, Global Financial Risk Management, Portfolio Management, and Options and Futures.

Learning objectives

• Development of strong analytical skills

• Ability to make responsible decisions based on fi nancial risks and opportunities

• Strong interpersonal and communications skills and competencies

• Clear understanding of fi nancial instruments and fi nancial institutions

• Valuation of companies

Career opportunities

Students seeking careers in risk management, commercial and investment banking, international trade and fi nance, fi nancial analysis, or portfolio management should strongly consider this major.

Integral to business administration and management and central in global economics, fi nance concerns itself with how businesses raise, spend, and invest capital, how fi rms allocate resources, and how fi nancial markets function.

Core courses cover the following key topics:

• Corporate Finance

• Financial Analysis

• Commercial Banking

• Investments

• Real Estate Finance

• Action Project in Finance

Additional elective options might include:

• Public Finance

• Acquiring a Company

• Starting a Business

Major in Social Entrepreneurship

What is a social entrepreneur?

Just as entrepreneurs change the face of business, social entrepreneurs act as the change agents for society, seizing opportunities to improve systems, invent new approaches, and create sustainable solutions to change society for the better. Unlike traditional entrepreneurs who are motivated by profi ts, social entrepreneurs are motivated to improve society (with profi t a pleasant by-product). They are pioneers of innovations that benefi t humanity; solution-minded pragmatists who are not afraid to tackle some of the world’s biggest problems. Whether they are working on a local or international scale, social entrepreneurs share a desire to solve problems that aren’t being addressed by traditional institutions, whether they be businesses, governments, or nonprofi ts.

A fascinating fi eld of study

Social entrepreneurs tackle major social issues, from increasing the availability of quality education to low-income students to fi ghting poverty in developing countries. Social entrepreneurship takes place within both non-profi t and for-profi t organizations, and successful social entrepreneurs must build relationships with NGOs, corporations, and governments alike. As such, it is a fusion of a business sensibility and a humanitarian impulse, and requires an equal fusion of business skills with a socio-political awareness. In short, social entrepreneurs must be adept at mustering and mobilizing human, fi nancial, and political resources.

The skills and knowledge to help the world

The Social Entrepreneurship major at Hult calls upon students to broaden their business

knowledge to encompass ethical debates and humanitarian challenges. Additionally, students develop the skills necessary to engage in successful issue-advocacy, problem-solving, innovation, and project development. The capstone of the major calls upon students to put their knowledge and skills to the test as they become consultants for actual organizations working on real-world challenges in the international arena.

Learning objectives

• Exposure to the main tenets of Social Entrepreneurship in the drive for positive social change

• Critical analysis of the socio-political, environmental, and ethical dimensions of the world economy and the business environment

• An ability to think practically and creatively about potential solutions to global problems

• Understanding of the non-profi t, charity, or NGO sector, and how these agents interact with businesses and governmental actors

• An appreciation of NGO management and the techniques used in advocacy and lobbying

• An ability to deliver innovative project plans in a professional and timely manner

Career opportunities

Graduates in Social Entrepreneurship will have the ability to think globally, an interest in solving large-scale problems, and the confi dence, skill, and desire to solve problems. Typically, graduates will work in NGO management, public policy, the UN and other development agencies, risk assessment and policy planning, corporate social responsiblity (CSR) departments within multinationals, or consulting on CSR, sustainability, or innovation.

Social Entrepreneurship is an emerging fi eld of study, coupling core business skills with a desire to address key social and environmental issues. As society’s change agents, social entrepreneurs start businesses to create a positive social force.

Core courses cover the following key topics:

• Global Crises

• Development Economics

• Doing Business in Emerging Markets

• Sustainability

• Social Innovation

• Stakeholder Engagement and Negotiation

• NGOs and International Organizations

• Action Project in Social Entrepreneurship

Additional elective options might include:

• Charity Finance and Management

• Project Management

• Product Development and Distribution Networks

Major in General Business

Interdisciplinary studies

The General Business major at Hult is an interdisciplinary major, which allows students the freedom to craft their degree according to their interests and career plans. Students usually lean toward an interest in a particular functional area, and they choose a major in this fi eld, whether Finance, Marketing, or Social Entrepreneurship. In practice, however, a career in business is likely to involve time spent in more than one of these areas. Indeed, a successful career in business, by defi nition, means ever-increasing responsibility for the full range of business functions. This is why MBA curricula are interdisciplinary—they are preparing graduates to move from a sector-specifi c role into a higher (and broader) management role, and arming them with the diverse skills necessary to do so. The General Business major at Hult adopts a similar rationale, allowing its students to gain the interdisciplinary knowledge to succeed in a range of business environments.

A wide range of choices

The choice of classes is entirely fl exible within the General Business major. Students must choose two courses from each major, plus three business electives, as they build their tailor-made and interdisciplinary business degree. General Business majors will work closely with their Academic Adviser to formulate an academic path that supports their academic interests and career goals. The ability to communicate effectively is also a key ingredient of talented management.

Learning objectives

• Develop an interdisciplinary knowledge of the functional areas of business and their conceptual frameworks, by taking advanced courses across multiple disciplines

• Have a broad understanding of a range of modern industrial, commercial, and public sector organizations that form the business environment

• Sharpen critical-thinking skills through case analysis and problem-solving approaches

• Gain practical and transferable skills to work in a variety of fi elds in business and management

Career opportunities

The General Business major prepares students interested in developing and advancing careers as general managers, entrepreneurs, or consultants in a wide range of business environments. By virtue of its interdisciplinary approach, the General Business major prepares graduates for a multi-sector career path, where a broad skill set is advantageous.

The most successful business leaders are those who can integrate knowledge of fi nance, marketing, management, and operations into an effective whole.

Courses

By defi nition the General Business major is cross-disciplinary. Students must choose two courses from each major, plus three business electives. Students may select courses from any of the other majors, and therefore develop their own tailor-made business focus based on their interests and course choice.*

* Curriculum, courses, sequencing, and program requirements are subject to change at the sole discretion of Hult International Business School.

Major in Management

A broad overview in management

The business environment of the 21st century requires multitalented and well prepared professionals who can achieve results by overcoming organizational hurdles in an effi cient and timely manner. This major is designed to educate future leaders and help in developing the skills and strategic management capabilities needed to succeed within a global business environment. Students will learn to see the enterprise as a whole, and to appreciate the linkages between the different functional areas of management. Additionally, students will develop their managerial “soft skills”: how to successfully lead a team, motivate and coach colleagues, and deliver results in a dynamic context. Successful managers explore and identify creative interests to ensure they can nurture them and match them with the vision and mission of the corporation.

Answers to fundamental questions

In addressing both functional and practical aspects of management, there are a number of enduring questions:

• What is the impact of effective leadership on organizational behavior?

• How do successful managers deal with issues of gender, ethics, personality, culture, motivation, and power?

• How is leadership differentiated from management?

Learning objectives

• Develop a broad understanding of the functional areas of management (operations, HR, etc.)

• Sharpen critical-thinking skills through case analysis and problem-solving approaches

• Develop the management and collaboration skills needed to work well in groups and to lead them

• Understand the links between individual behavior and its social and organizational context

• Acquire knowledge of effective organizations and management practices and apply this research to real-world organizational challenges

• Develop research and presentation skills relevant to the fi eld of Management

Career opportunities:

The Management major prepares students interested in developing and advancing a career as a general manager, and provides a framework for more specialized management careers in human resource management, project management, production management, operations management, or management consulting in any global business.

Almost all successful business graduates will eventually fi nd themselves managing people, processes, and facilities, and the effectiveness of their management style will determine the success, health, and longevity of the business.

Core courses cover the following key topics:

• Strategy

• Management Consulting

• Operations Management

• Human Resources Management

• Project Management

• Action Project in Management

Additional elective options might include:

• Managing the Family Business

• Corporate Finance

• Business Information Systems

• Negotiating a Business Deal

Hult’s Action Projects

By applying classroom learning to actual business situations, you’ll gain a powerful education that demonstrates how business is conducted. Earn academic credit, gain professional skills, and get invaluable exposure to the world on an Action Project.

An integral part of Hult’s LEAP curriculum

Action Projects let you “learn by doing”. During each year of your studies, you will participate in an Action Project which helps bring to life the theory and skills that you learn in the classroom. Action Projects will be as closely matched to your academic interests and studies as possible, and are credit-bearing courses that count toward your final graduation. An invaluable way to see how business is conducted on an international scale, Hult’s Action Project is like working toward a mini-MBA.

Participate in an Action Project abroad

Ensuring that you can apply your knowledge is central to our pedagogical philosophy. Hult’s curriculum has been designed so that you gain exposure to the world outside of the classroom through Action Projects. Each year, starting in Year One through to Year Four, your projects will become progressively more involved. Year One and Year Two Action Projects take place in London. During Years Three and Four, you may pursue your Action Projects at one of Hult’s global campuses.

Year One Action Project places your learning in context

To ensure a level of practical reality in your studies, we have integrated an Action Project into the curriculum which literally is designed so that you will “know how to do”. Your Year One Action Project will be related to the Core Competencies that you will study during the General Education courses. Examples of an Action Project might be organizing the Bloomsbury Festival or working on charitable projects in and around London. (Action Projects may differ from year to year, depending on relevancy and availability).

Year Two Action Project builds on your growing skills and knowledge

Year Two Action Projects build on what you have learned and done during your fi rst year, and are related to a combination of the General Education Core Competencies and Business Fundamentals. Project work might be similar to Year One, but with more advanced business dynamics. You may work with local businesses on business plans and future innovation or extend your Year One Action Project.

Year Three Action Project gives you the chance to join an MBA team and live abroad

In your third year, you will be attached to a small group of Hult postgraduates and a mentor, as part of their Action Project team. You can choose to join an MBA team on any one of Hult’s global campus locations or remain in London. Learn how to formulate a strategy, devise a business plan, and communicate at a corporate level. Conduct an Action Project for major multinationals like Pfi zer or the Financial Times or for a start-up entrepeneurial venture.

Year Four Action Project

A culmination of your studies, your Year Four Action Project is the capstone experience that places your chosen major into context. Working on teams to complete an answer to a question, you will use the process and frameworks that relate to your major. Marketing Majors might help a retail chain consider its marketing mix, segmentation, targeting, and positioning; Finance Majors may analyze a new industry, sector, or company; while General Business Majors might create a business plan for a small start-up company. At the end, you will present your fi ndings to a panel of faculty and executives.

Analyst Certifi cate in Innovation

Get beyond the buzz to understand how leading companies, consulting fi rms, and gurus develop breakthrough innovations by identifying emerging trends, collecting a range of insights, and creating new innovations that are profi table and create barriers to entry. Successfully managing innovation requires people who can identify and act on opportunities in ambiguous, uncertain, and rapidly changing environments. This program focuses on expanding your view of innovation beyond science, technology, and R & D. It builds innovation management competency that applies in every function and in every company. Learn how to collect and develop ideas from a range of sources, combine different ideas together in unique and innovative ways, and visualize your new business concepts to show their potential. This certifi cate was developed in partnership with the Global Innovation Management Institute—a professional membership organization composed of innovation executives, academics, and practitioners across companies and geographies. The program is delivered by practitioners from the Center for Innovation, Excellence and Leadership (IXL Center), Arthur D. Little, and the Monitor Group.

Analyst Certifi cate in Sustainability

Corporations, small- and medium-sized businesses, and governments and society at large face a number of unprecedented and simultaneous global risks. While the evidence is mixed, many executives now understand that their business activities must become sustainable. But because of cost and the scope of the transformation needed, together with the diffi culty in precisely defi ning the term, sustainability remains a very large elephant in

the corner of the corporate room. Many are unclear how to start on the path to sustainability. In addition, industry practice often takes place in silos with there being carbon experts, corporate responsibility practitioners, and supply chain specialists working in the sector. In this highly practical course students disentangle the nature of the risks, how they impact on businesses, and what sustainability means to the constituent parts of a business. With a signifi cant element of experiential or action learning, students then adopt a workable and innovative methodology for corporations to become incrementally more sustainable, in line with their natural business cycles.

Analyst Certifi cate in Consulting

Successful business managers and leaders can dissect complex business problems, develop plans, execute diffi cult projects, and provide meaningful recommendations quickly and effectively. Fundamental elements that make these individuals successful are their logic, structured communication, leadership skills, and an ability to fi nish what is started. This program focuses on the critical frameworks, tools, skills, and behaviors developed by leading consultants at McKinsey, Monitor Group, Bain, and BCG and deployed in thousands of companies around the world. Learn to understand and deconstruct complex business problems. Develop clear and comprehensive plans to solve these problems and build consensus and commitment to follow through. These techniques can be applied to multidisciplinary issues of strategy, innovation, fi nance, organizational capabilities, and culture for all industries and functions. This certifi cate program prepares students with a powerful, professional framework for interactions

Each Hult Analyst Certificate* is a formal designation of professional achievement developed in partnership with recognized leaders in their respective areas. Students may choose to certify their knowledge in any of the following areas:

• Innovation

• Sustainabililty

• Consulting

This program is delivered by current and former senior practitioners from the Center for Innovation, Excellence and Leadership (IXL Center), Arthur D. Little, and the Monitor Group. To qualify for the certificate, students must successfuly complete the three-week course. Most undergraduate students take certificate programs during their first and second years.

individual sponsor. The student is accountable for full payment on

the payment deadline, and the legal commitment will be between

the School and the sponsor.

Payment Terms and Deadlines

Undergraduate degree

• An application fee of GBP50 is payable at the time of the application

submission.

• A non-refundable deposit of GBP1,500, which contributes towards

the tuition price, is payable within 14 days of acceptance into the

program, and will hold the student’s place.

• 50% of the annual tuition fee (less deposit) is payable 60 days before

the start of class.

• The remaining balance of the total fees is payable 30 days before the

start of class.

• Students have the option of paying via an installment plan.* A fee of

GBP350 will be charged to all students who choose this option.

* The School reserves the right to assess a late payment surcharge.

Tuition Credit Policy

The Tuition Fee entitles a student to study classes totaling up to 30

credit hours per academic year. Students who take classes totaling

less than 30 credits will have their credits carried forward to their fi nal

year (there is no cash refund for unused credits). For students who take

more credits beyond 30, these will be charged pro-rata per credit.

Cancellation and Withdrawal Policy

The date on which the notice of intention to withdraw and not re-

enter is received by the Registrar, or the date on which the student

is informed of his or her dismissal from the School, will be used to

determine the appropriate tuition credit.

After the offi cial end of the “add/drop” period the School grants only

tuition credits that may be used within a fi ve-year period for future

educational services. It does not grant cash refunds.

A student withdrawing during an academic year is entitled to a tuition

credit equal to 30 credit hours less the total credit hours of classes

during that academic year for which that student has registered and

has started or completed at the time of withdrawal.

Global Rotation Program

The Global Rotation Program is subject to capacity constraints and

will be offered on a fi rst-come-fi rst-served basis. Students must be

in good academic standing and be up-to-date on tuition payments

to participate in this program a deposit of GBP330 or equivalent is

required to secure each rotation (if a student wish to rotate twice they

will be required to pay two deposits of GBP330).

Graduation Requirements

• Students working towards an undergraduate degree must

satisfactorily complete a minimum of 120 credit hours of

coursework, with a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 (C) or

better for all work completed with letter-grade credit. If a student

repeats a course, the higher grade counts towards graduation and

the computation of the cumulative grade point average.

• Students must satisfactorily complete both all General Education

requirements as set out in the current School catalog, and all

requirements for the student’s major.

• The following residence requirements must be met:

(i) A student’s last 40 credit hours of credit or a combined total of

30% of the required credit hours must be earned at the Hult campus

at which the student is initially enrolled.

(ii) A maximum of 8 credit hours of credit earned previously through

distance learning courses may be applied towards graduation at

the School.

Admissions Policy

The admissions policy of the School is intended to assess how an

applicant might contribute to, and benefi t from, an undergraduate

education in a culturally diverse institutional environment. It refl ects a

“holistic approach” to application review based on (1) Basic Admissions

Criteria, and (2) Personal Factors:

Basic Admissions Criteria

• High school transcripts

• SAT or ACT score preferred, but not required

• Letters of recommendation

• English language profi ciency

Personal Factors

• National origin, ethnicity, gender (to ensure diversity)

• Career goals

• Evidence of:

- Leadership

- Professional promise

- Motivation and drive

- Overcoming adversity, including disabilities

The above factors are not exhaustive, and may be considered in

various ways. They may not, however, be subsumed into a standard

formula or ranking. They will be considered in conjunction with all

other admissions criteria and factors, in light of the School’s mission

and purpose.

(iii) A maximum of 40 credit hours of credit earned through a

combination of special examinations, experiential credit, and

distance learning may be applied towards graduation at the School.

• After a student has enrolled at the School, the student must obtain

approval in writing from the Provost or Dean, in order to be assured

credit at the School, for subsequent work taken at any other

accredited institutions (in regular semesters or summer sessions,

correspondence or extension courses, study abroad, etc).

• Students who require fewer than 40 credit hours to graduate in

a given academic year, will pay a pro rata tuition fee based on

the number of credit hours required to graduate. Only graduating

students are eligible for pro rata tuition fees.

• In addition, for visa purposes, the student must meet the full-time

student residency requirements of the campus host country.

Data Protection

Any information provided to the School may be held on computers and

shall be used by the School and its authorized agents in accordance

with the Data Protection Act.

Defi nition of Key Terms

• Major: All students at the School must declare a major, i.e. the

fi eld in which the student chooses to specialize, to understand in

depth. As is common in American higher education, the School’s

undergraduate programs do not concentrate exclusively on one

fi eld. Requirements for majors are specifi ed in the catalog, and a

student can graduate and receive a degree only when he or she

has completed a set of major requirements successfully. A student’s

major is listed on his or her transcript.

• Elective Courses: These are courses chosen by the student. Some

of these courses are within the major and offer students a degree of

choice in their areas of specialization. Others are free electives, and

allow students to pursue interests outside the major.

• Hours: Progress towards a degree is measured in credit hours. The

normal load for a full-time student is 12-15 credits per module.
