HUMAN SITE SPECIFIC installation-performance

The Divan is an interactive installation that has 11 areas. It can be experienced from both the outside and inside, and allows for many viewing points. The public leave their usual role of mere observer, and are invited to participate in 3 of the areas. The spectators who choose to enter can createtheir own path and experience as they explore the different parts that areoffered. Each person is free to decide the degree of his or her involvement and participation.

The Divan is an invitation to look at onself and other people in a new way. An enchanted place, reminiscientof a surrealistic hairdressing salon, where time has stopped. An atmosphere that leads the public to contact with their own ideas and ideals of beauty, and to question the impositionof certain aesthetic rules, often presented as absolute, untouchable truths.

IN EACH AREAa proposal for the spectators:

The Divan magazine, a moment of re-flection on aesthetic diversity. Mirrors with questions that invite us to explore new ways of looking at ourselves. A moment to write about the fears and desires the idea of a change of image produces.

Weigh ourselves and take body mea-surements, and write them on the sil-houettes on the wall.

For the onlooking public, directed voyeurism with indications for looking through the keyholes and binnoculars, and to also observe the emotions that arise.

The voice recorder as the witness of a personal confession of some moment in which one has been discriminated against for his or her physical appearance, ideas, sexual orientation, aspirations, social class etc.

An invitation for a personal meeting with the hairdresser of the Divan.

The hairdresser shares photos, a short film, her memories and a certain inti-macy to invite the spectator to discover their own, and feel more open. A space of artistic expression, by means of collage, from people’s perso-nal experience in the installation and in relation to it’s theme.

A break to remember a special mo-ment in your life, whilst relaxing on a carpet.

An area for the spectators inside and outside. A cascade of cards on which to write aesthetc judgments, their own or others.
