Humanitarian IED Search (HIED-S)
Course Factsheet
Who is this course for? This course is for those who are already IMAS EOD Level 3 qualified and
would, due to enhancing their skill set, like to have a more in-depth knowledge
on the way IEDs and Booby Traps are constructed, initiated, and where they
are likely to be located. The course will enable successful students with the
skills to conduct Advance Search threat assessments, extensive planning
and execution of recognised Search procedures. These skills will all
contribute to the safe locating and marking of legacy IEDs and hides using
intelligence assessments, systematic procedures and appropriate detection
techniques. Consequently, aiding follow up agencies with the disposal or
recovery of finds and allowing the environment to be returned to normal.
The HIED-S course has been designed in a way to assess students’ ability
to perform as Advance Search Advisors, Team Leaders and Team Searchers
in a permissive environment. Furthermore, this HIED-S course contributes
the first step towards the Humanitarian IED Disposal (HIEDD) qualification,
delivered at MAT Kosovo, allowing attendees to work towards HIEDD in a
manageable, non-time consuming way.
