HMRI Award for Research Excellence (1 x $20,000 available)

This award recognises and rewards the dedication and achievements of one of the Hunter’s most gifted researchers. The award carries a prize of $20,000 to be used to further the recipient’s research program.

Eligibility Criteria:

Employed by Hunter New England Local Health District and/or The University of Newcastle and/or Calvary Mater Newcastle

Currently working in the Hunter Conducted research in the Hunter for at least one year Research of excellence in any field of health and medical research

Assessment Criteria:

Written statement of nomination addressing the criteria of the award Nominee’s curriculum vitae (CV) Supporting documents such as references and testimonials Contributing to the improvement of human health Distinguished research record over at least the last five (5) years (with preference given to work

undertaken in the Hunter), recognised by: Publications in peer reviewed journals Peer reviewed grant success Invitation to deliver plenary and major lectures at national and international conferences Contribution to enhancing the research environment in the Hunter (e.g. team building,

mentorship, establishment of major research initiatives or capacity)

Director’s Award for Mid-Career Research (1 x $15,000 available)

This award recognises and rewards the dedication and achievements of one of the Hunter’s most gifted mid-career researchers. The award carries a prize of $15,000 to be used to further the recipient’s research program.

Eligibility Criteria:

Employed by Hunter New England Local Health District and/or The University of Newcastle and/or Calvary Mater Newcastle

Currently working in the Hunter Conducted research in the Hunter for at least one year Research of excellence in any field of health and medical research At the time of nomination, no more than fifteen (15) years (or full time equivalent) experience since

the award of their PhD or equivalent research/clinical qualification.

Assessment Criteria:

Written statement of nomination addressing the criteria of the award Nominee’s curriculum vitae (CV) Supporting documents such as references and testimonials Contributing to the improvement of human health Strong recent research record relative to opportunity (with preference given to work undertaken in

the Hunter), recognised by: Publications in peer reviewed journals Peer reviewed grant success Invitation to deliver plenary and major lectures at national and international conferences Contribution to enhancing the research environment in the Hunter (e.g. team building,

mentorship, establishment of major research initiatives or capacity)

NB: HMRI will take into account leaves of absences or career disruptions (such as for maternity leave and periods of part-time employment) when assessing the career stage if a researcher provides this

Currently working in the Hunter Conducted research in the Hunter for at least one year Research of excellence in any field of health and medical research At the time of nomination, no more than five (5) years (or full time equivalent) experience since the

award of their PhD or equivalent research/clinical qualification.

Written statement of nomination addressing the criteria of the award Nominee’s curriculum vitae (CV) Supporting documents such as references and testimonials Likelihood of contributing to improvement in human health Substantial research record relative to opportunity recognised by:

Publications in peer reviewed journals Peer reviewed grant success Invitation to deliver plenary and major lectures at national and international conferences Contribution to enhancing the research environment in the Hunter (e.g. supervision of

students, mentoring, building research capacity)
