HUNTERS COME WITH A PLAN,SYDNEY SHUT DOWN-------------------------------------------------------------------------Sydney,NSW | These two teams clashed just two weeks ago and on that occasion a commanding second half sent Sydney home with the victory. The Blues were expected to continue where they left off but Newcastle again showed just why they went so close to the Grand Final last year and shut down Sydney to win 20-0.

It was classic Newcastle. Stout defence backed up by efficient offence. The Hunters needed to score touchdowns today and in the end they got 2 which was a start. Before they got across the stripe Quarterback Luke Ogden threw up a pick on the opening drive as he tried to stretch the coverage down the field to Eric Decker. It was a limp attempt to threaten teams deep from what is normally a conservative, run first play book. Ogden was just like the week before taking more of the responsibility for the team. He lead the way on a 10 play drive and then finished it off by scrambling to his left and crashing through defenders to get into the end zone. It was a display of toughness that impress his team mates and the Coach. “Luke showed he has what it takes” said Coach Laurie Frier. “The stage does not get any bigger than this and he put it on the line”. Frier added “His teammates were inspired”.

Sydney meanwhile were unable to get things going thanks to having the run game stopped. Dean Leatigaga gained just 38 yards on the night. On the back of this Quarterback Peter Harper was finding it hard to get anyone open and whilst he still did not give up a pick he completed just 45% of his passes.

Henerai Lowe added a third quarter field goal before speedy rookie Joey Clarke raced in an 8 yard pass in the 4th. Sydney were stopped on downs on their final 3 possessions and Lowe added a final field goal blowing out the score to 20-0.
