Times are certainly interesting for those affected by the fires that are burning across the world. !! HURST GREEN NEWS

That is an interesting phrase that is usually quoted as a Chinese blessing/curse. The inference being that it is better to live in uninteresting times when peace and tranquillity allow you to live out your life than in interesting ones when you have little control over what is going on. Actually it has no known Chinese derivation but that does not stop it being quoted!

Hurst Green Singers appoints new Music DirectorHurst Green Singers has appointed a new Music Director, Dr James Meaders. James moved to the UK in June 2017 after three years working and conducting in New York City. During his distinguished career, his choirs have performed invitational concerts at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Disney Hall in Los Angeles, and Washington National Cathedral. He has taught undergraduate and graduate conducting, vocal studies, and chaired a university department of music. He facilitates and serves on the faculty of Distinguished Concerts International New York’s annual Conductors’ Mentoring Workshop, held each January in New York City.He was a practising church musician for more than 25 years before moving to New York and has conducted choral societies, numerous Honor Choirs, and many festivals. Dr Meaders, in partnership with several US choral colleagues, created The International Partnership for Choral Music Education, an annual service learning-based conducting symposium in Johannesburg, South Africa, that is dedicated to promoting the development of the choral arts of South Africa. Jamie's interests include exploring the English countryside, red wine, Labrador Retrievers, and learning English as a second language!

The choir starts rehearsals again on Tuesday 4 September 2018 at 8pmin St John’s Church, Hurst Green.

And on Tuesday 18 September, we start at 7.30pm with drinks and nibbles; anyone who is potentially interested in joining the choir is particularly encouraged to come along. New members are always welcome - you don’t have to be able to read music (although it is an advantage) and there are no auditions.

Just come along and see for yourself!
