HVAR WINE TOUR HVAR WINE TOUR WHERE THE WINE FUTURE BEGINS WHERE THE WINE FUTURE BEGINS
Plavac Mali is the most known autochthonic grape variety in Croatia and the Dalmatian region. First brought here by Greeks 2234 years ago, Hvar’s ancient vineyards and olive groves have been recognized by UNESCO and are now protected as a World Heritage Site, the oldest continuously cultivated agricultural plain in the world!Admired by wine enthusiasts around the globe, plavac mali’s fame might never have happened if wasn’t for Croatia’s most famous winemaker, Mike Grgich. As a young Croat, Mike left his native land with $30 in his pocket to find his fortune in America. Today, this legendary founder of Grgich Hills Winery in California; partner of the Mondavi family (and creator of their best chardonnay) and the pioneer of USA wine production in Napa Valley is famous the world over as the wine-maker who stunned the world by winning the famous 1976 Paris blind wine tasting (made into the movie “Bottle Shock”) For years Mike and a few of his fellow Croatians were convinced that the roots of zinfandel, “America’s grape”, were really Dalmatian. After years of research and DNA testing, Grgićh was proved right. Not only was zinfandel Croatian, but it was traced to a small village in Kastela, between Split and Trogir. Another local cultivar, dobricic, from the island of Solta, was later found to be one of the parents of plavac mali which together with plavac mail and plavina, further proved a “first-degree” relationship of zinfandel. As Grgich himself said: ‘’Apart from the genes of zinfandel, plavac mali has genes of dobričić, a sort that has more colour than zinfandel, and has a thicker foreskin which is prevention to become rotten. I’m predicting a worldwide future for plavac mali, and I strongly believe that it will replace Italian primitivo and American zinfandel.’’

Imagine Hvar. The good news is there is no need to imagine. The wines are
ready for tasting, the picturesque vineyards are available to visit, the wine experts are waiting to share their knowledge and
produce.
OUR WINE TOURThe program takes the clients to the wine cellars of Tomic and to
Dubokovic wine cellar.
WINE TOUR OF HVAR / STOP 1
DUBOKOVIC WINE CELLARThe leading Croatian “garage” winemaker to taste wines that have
become the most sought after in the country. The reason? You’ll taste what it's like to try ''2718 hours in the bottle” or currently
most wanted wine label Medvid’. The term “garage” winemaker is sarcastically used by big Bordeaux wine producers and vineyard landlords to denigrate young and ambitious ''wine newcomers''
without vineyards or with very small land plots.. Here in Croatia,Dubokovic wines have become a ''must have'' in
the finest restaurants, hotels and specialized wine shops. Dubokovic – Medvid wines now have the distinction of being the
most expensive regular vintage wines in the country!

WINE TOUR OF HVAR / STOP 2
BASTIJANA WINE CELLARAndro Tomic was born on the island Hvar and has dedicated his whole life to wines and oenology. After 20 years of professional training, he decided to return to Hvar to produce his own wines.
Firmly believing that Hvar, with its authentic varieties, exceptionally favorable climate and location of vineyards, can
reclaim its long lost reputation in wine making, Andro follows the tradition of his forebears. In the year 1997., he founded a
company called Bastijana, with the primary aim of producing top quality vines, and promoting wine culture. Even though a relatively
young company, Bastijana soon became synonymous with quality in both domestic as well as some foreign markets and already
enjoys a high reputation among wine connoisseurs.
RED WINES OF HVAR / PLAVAC MALI
PLAVAC MALIPlavac Mali comes out of a cross between two grape varieties,
namely Zinfandel and Dobricic. Actually Zinfandel isn’t the local name. That’s what it was called on its arrival in the New World. On
Hvar it was better known as Tribidrag and in southern Italy it’s Primitivo. They can now tell that these grapes are all the same
variety, isn’t DNA wonderful! Anyway, after being a staple of Dalmatian wine production from around the 15th century (and for all we know, earlier than that), Tribidrag all but disappeared from local vineyards, to be replaced by the new, improved youngster –
Plavac Mali!Plavac Mali first gets an official mention in the 1821 publication on Viticulture of the Austrian Empire. A little later, as “Plavaz Piccola“,
it was included as a varietal in an experimental vineyard near Vienna. Apparently the oldest known vineyard of Plavac Mali is in
Dol, on the island of Hvar. There are actually still 20 vines originally planted in 1860. These are self-rooted, since the soil is
sandy enough to stop the dreaded phylloxera bugs. So many vines died off in the early 1900s, that this small remnant of 150 year old
plants is quite a rarity.
WHITE WINES OF HVAR / BOGDANJUSA & POSIP
BOGDANJUSAAn ancient variety indigenous to Hvar island, grown today in the
Ager area. Bogdanjusa is a well-regarded white variety that can be relied on to produce quality wines. A prolific grower, it gives
reliable and good yields. It ripens in the third period. Normally used to produce monovarietal wines, but also a great team player in white blends. The name means “a godsend”, which is explained
by its traditional use during church holidays and festivities.
POSIPThis white variety, indigenous to Korcula island, has an increasing
presence on Hvar. It probably owes its name to the somewhat tapering shape of its grapes, which brings to mind the oblong side (sip) of a Dalmatian soil-tilling implement. The yields are good and
reliable. Posip gives a typically intense and aromatic Dalmatian wine. It ripens in the second period.

TRADITIONAL FISHIG
TRADITIONAL FISHINGLife on Hvar is synonymous with the sea itself. For the people of Hvar
the sea drives their emotions, dictates their moods, and puts bread on their tables. On the island, fishing is a trade and art that has been
passed from father to son for countless generations. This excursion gives those with a passion for fishing and/or the sea an opportunity to
directly experience this tradition and way of life.Whether you want to try your hand at fishing or just observe, you'll get the opportunity to learn from a local fisherman and listen to his stories
of life at sea. This tour lets you experience a unique and traditional Hvar way of life. After picking you up, we will take you to nearest dock where we would board our boat. We’ll pass though Paklinski Island or
to north east side of Hvar island (depending on the weather occasions). The nets that are used to catch fish are thrown into the sea very early
in the morning (3 - 4AM) or even the day before. The most amazing and exciting part is picking up the net when it is full of catch. Fishing
with parangal is a very simple technique using very thin but very firm rope. Every 1 or 1.5 meters there is tight nylon string with hook at the
end.Parangal is usually used for catching very big fish like: eels, dentex and delicious
red scorpion. The trip ends with a stunning fish dinner - where you'll feast on the
fruits of your labor and enjoy fine wine..

Island Lavender Walk with the Brunch
Hvar has been known around as ''the island of lavender'' for centuries. This fragrant herb with its extraordinary medicinal
properties, grows in lush fields in some of the island's most picturesque places. Fifty years ago Hvar was contributed with
8% of world total lavender oil production; but now it’s very limited as agricultural land became more valuable for
commerce and real estate development..But the magic world of senses and fragrances that permeate
this majestic island is still here! It’s a story of perennial battles between locals and limestone--deciding rock by rock who
would tame the harsh landscape for small piece of fertile soil to grow lavender. We will take you to the very source, where
the story about this precious plant begins; where you will learn how a simple plant forever changed life on Hvar .
After enjoying the walk side by side with one of the island’s last local lavender
agriculturists, we’ll end our wonderful afternoon in the charming little village
of Velo Grablje (or the private house of your host.) to enjoy a wonderful brunch or supper, singing and a visit to two small
churches. Our Island Lavender Walk not only will help you discover the simplicity of mother nature, but also how the
sincerity and hospitality of people for whom lavender is still a passion, makes our island so special.
.
Tour description: This half day program for small groups starts at 9AM Or, late afternoon at 5PM. We'll visit the lavender fields around Velo
Grablje, just a 10 min drive from Hvar Old Town. After our 45 min gentle walk we'll reach the Velo Grablje lavender distillery where
we will take a brief tour to see how lavender is made into aromatics. Then we will stroll to a central part of the village
visiting the St.Kuzma and Damian church where you will enjoy local traditional a cappella singing, Then it's time for either a
delicious brunch or supper prepared using local delicacies served on the central square of the Velo Grablje, or if bad weather at
house of your host.
- PAKLINSKI ISLANDS SPEED BOAT RALLY
SPEED BOAT SAFARIUnlike our Paklinski Island Treasure Hunt, the main focus of
the speed boat safari is not the race to the finish, it’s problem solving and earning as many points as possible
along the way. We've set up 8 task locations, with 12 tasks in total. At each location, teams spend 15 minutes or so trying to rack up points. On each boat, the skipper is completely in the dark - only the group can tell him where to go next! The Speed Boat Safari is one of our most popular team building
programs because it has challenging intellectual components, physical effort and interactivity and nautical
skills - giving everyone a chance to express their creativity and intelligence as they attempt to crack the codes.
