Altair HyperMesh is a high-performance finite-element pre-processor forpopular finite-element solvers that allow engineers to analyze product designperformance in a highly interactive and visual environment. HyperMesh'suser interface is easy to learn and supports a number of CAD geometry andfinite-element model file formats, hereby increasing interoperability andefficiency. Advanced functionality within HyperMesh allows users to efficientlymanipulate geometry and mesh highly complex models. These functionalitiesinclude extensive meshing and model control, morphing technology toupdate existing meshes to new design proposals and automatic mid-surfacegeneration for complex designs with varying wall thicknesses. Moreover, HyperMesh hasrobust tools to clean-up (mend) imported geometry containing surfaces withgaps, overlaps and misalignments that prevent high-quality meshgeneration. By eliminating misalignments and holes, and suppressing theboundaries between adjacent surfaces, users can mesh across larger, morelogical regions of the model, while improving overall meshing speed andquality. Boundary conditions can be applied to these surfaces for futuremapping to underlying element data.

CAE SOLVER INTERFACESHyperMesh supports a host of different solver formats for bothimport and export. Along with fully supported solvers, HyperMeshalso provides the flexibility to support additional solvers by way ofa complete export template language and C libraries for thedevelopment of input translators.

HyperMesh presents users with an advanced suite ofeasy-to-use tools to build and edit CAE models. For2D and 3D model creation, users have access toa variety of mesh-generation capabilities, aswell as HyperMesh's powerful automeshingmodule. Automatic mid-surface generation,a comprehensive laminate modeler andmorphing (transform existing FE meshes tonew design proposals) offer new levels ofmodel manipulation.

The surface automeshing module inHyperMesh is a robust tool for mesh generationthat provides users with the ability to interactivelyadjust a variety of mesh parameters for eachsurface or surface edge. These parameters includeelement density, element biasing and meshalgorithm. Element generation can be automaticallyoptimized for a set of user-defined quality criteria. Using solid geometry,

HyperMesh can utilize Boolean operations to connect or separate solidmodels for tetra-meshing or hexa-meshing. Partitioning thesemodels is fast, easy and allows users to spend less timepreparing the geometry for solid meshing. The solid-meshingmodule allows users to mesh partitioned volumes in a quicklyand intuitively.

HyperMesh can also rapidly tetra-mesh a closed volumewith high-quality first- or second-order tetrahedralelements. The tetra-mesh module uses the powerfulAFLR algorithm. Users can control element growthoptions for structural or CFD modeling requirements,select tria or quad elements for tetrahedral generationand re-mesh local regions. Users can also employ the

interactive, process-driven tools within HyperMesh foreasy model setup, including model assembly using

connectors, creation of complex contact definitions, application ofboundary conditions and solver deck preparations.
