The International Centre for Hydrogen Energy Technologies ( ICHET ) is a UNIDO project which has the mission of demonstrating viable implementations of Hydrogen energy technologies and facilitating their widespread use in developing countries through realizing & supporting demonstration projects, applied research activities, education, training, seminars, conferences and workshops

As a non-profit organization, ICHET aims to supportdeveloping countries ‘leap-frog’ over conventional energy technologies to hydrogen technology

Why HydrogenWhy Hydrogen and Fuel and Fuel CellsCells ? ?H2 is not a primary energy source, but an energy carrier

like electricity

Energy security concern of each country

Concern over global climate change & warming ( < 2C)

H2 is transportable & environmentally friendly

Energy storing capacity of H2 is much more than Li-Ion battery ( 33,306 Wh/kg vs 180 Wh/kg )

Fuel cells are electrochemical devices which produce electricity & heat by combining H2 & O2, with only pure water & air as by-products

Fuel Cells are very efficient energy converters ( up to 60% )

High battery weights & sizes w.r.t. their storage capacity constrain their driving range to max. 160 miles

Long recharging times ( 7-8 hours )

Batteries have 90% efficiency

Fuel Cell Vehicles ( FCV )

Longer driving range 450 km with 350 bar H2 and 800 km with 700 bar H2

H2 has shorter refueling time ( 3 min.)

H2 has much more energy storing capacity than batteries

Hydrogen FC technology and battery technology are complementary to each other

BEV : for short driving ranges and light loads EREV : for medium driving ranges and medium loads FCEV : for long & continuous driving ranges and heavier loads
